NorthShore features five hospitals and four specialty institutes with significant capabilities in a wide spectrum of leading clinical programs: cardiovascular, orthopaedics, oncology, and neurological. Headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, the NorthShore system hospitals are Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park, Skokie, and Swedish. A highly collaborative Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) Model characterizes the department’s broad-based practice that focuses always on optimizing the care and comfort of patients. Anesthesia care is delivered in a dynamic environment that promotes professional growth and development of the entire clinical team, from anesthesiologists to certified nurse anesthetists to student nurse anesthetists and anesthesiology residents. As a teaching affiliate of the University of Chicago, as well as the NorthShore School of Nurse Anesthesia, based at Evanston Hospital, the department also helps to advance the latest in research and education of physicians and nursing staff.

While on vacation in Switzerland, Endeavor Health CRNA Lyle Bernardo found herself in an unexpected life-or-death situation. While hiking the Stoos Ridge Trail, she came upon a man who had collapsed on the ground, with a bystander just beginning CPR. Immediately assessing the situation, she dropped her hiking bag and joined in, directing someone to retrieve an AED as they continued resuscitation efforts. When the AED arrived from a nearby mountain hut, she found that all of the instructions were in German! Despite this, she quickly applied the pads, followed the prompts, and delivered two shocks. By the time the ambulance arrived by helicopter, the man had regained spontaneous breathing and was moving his arms. Lyle’s swift, decisive actions and ability to stay composed and effective in a foreign environment exemplify the skill, readiness, and dedication CRNAs carry with them wherever they go.

The Endeavor Anesthesia Department prides itself on a culture of teamwork and collaboration. It is with the dedication and expertise of our exceptional 𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐬 that we owe our success for each case, each procedure, each patient, each day.

While this week is Anesthesia Tech Week, we will continue to celebrate their contribution to this department and the anesthesia field as a whole. Their hard work and commitment certainly does not go unnoticed and we are incredibly grateful to work alongside such esteemed professionals.

Joseline is an Endeavor CRNA of 27 years. This past August, she embarked on a different kind of family vacation, fueled with immense pride in her 21-year-old daughter, Michelle, whose dedication to service has transformed lives in Nepal. A few years ago, Michelle spent a summer teaching English in the remote village of Kimche, where she also provided students with new uniforms and school supplies. True to her promise to return, she later spearheaded a fundraising campaign to install the first reverse osmosis water filtration system in the Annapurna region, granting local children access to clean, safe drinking water for the first time.

On her return trip, Michelle invited her family to witness the project’s impact. Together, along with some members of the anesthesia department, they donated goats to families living in the underdeveloped areas of Kimche and Kathmandu—making her quite literally the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) in giving back. The experience was both humbling and deeply rewarding, as they witnessed firsthand the lasting impact of Michelle’s compassion and leadership uplifting communities in need.

Did you know our anesthesia team is made up of many amazing CRNAs from across the country?!

𝐌𝐀𝐗 is a new grad originally from Minnesota and graduated from CRNA school in South Dakota. Fun fact: he’s a lover of all sports, and enjoys running, golf, and pickleball! 🏃‍♂️⛳️ 🏓

𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐒𝐄𝐘 is an experienced CRNA that previously trained and worked in North Carolina. Fun fact: she loves a good DIY project, no matter the challenge. She can’t wait to experience her first Chiberia, I mean Chicago, winter! 🥶❄️

We are so excited that Max and Lindsey found their new home at Endeavor and are happy to have them on our team! 💪🏼
