Love Looks Like... Being Seen. 🏳️‍🌈

This Pride Month, we're exploring what love looks like in all its forms. Being seen, truly and fully, by the people around you, by your community, and by yourself, is one of the most meaningful things a person can experience.

Read through for the first part of our Love Looks Like... series, rooted in research and insights from our own clinicians, that we'll be sharing all month long.

We Honor Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈

Pride Month was born from a movement. Sparked by the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, LGBTQ+ communities demanded dignity, visibility, and justice in the face of systemic discrimination. That legacy continues today as both a celebration of identity and a renewed commitment to equity, belonging, and care.

At The Family Institute at Northwestern University, we honor LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families, not only during Pride Month, but every day. We are committed to creating spaces where all identities and relationships are seen, supported, and understood with compassion and respect.

Every journey is unique. Wherever you are on yours, you deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.

Setting boundaries is an act of self-care. 💙

In the middle of a busy week, consider this a gentle reminder that your boundaries are yours and that's enough. You are allowed to say no, to struggle, and to give yourself grace when things don't go as planned.

Perfectionism and having goals aren't the same thing. 💙

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we're sharing another Mental Reset, skills for building a healthier mindset and learning to let go of perfectionism, based on insights from Mairin Wilkie, LCSW, a therapist at The Family Institute.

Having standards for yourself is healthy, but when the pursuit of flawlessness leads to self-criticism and anxiety, it may be time to zoom out. You are capable of showing yourself the same compassion you'd show anyone else.
