A fine extra-firm tip concentrates force into a small area — that's what gets you into a deep, well-defended trigger point in the glute or the QL, where a broader head just pushes the whole muscle around. A broad soft head spreads that same force out, which is what you want over superficial tissue, over bone, or on a client whose nervous system guards against anything sharper.

Work the whole body with one head in the middle and you're under-reaching on the deep points while over-treating the sensitive ones. Neither failure announces itself. You just get slower results and blame the technique.
