The Community Action Program of Evansville (CAPE) is pleased to announce that the Community Health Services component of our agency will host the Evansville Men’s Barbershop Health Initiative on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Since 2011, CAPE has partnered with the Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African American Males and the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Human Relations Commission to coordinate this important event. This year, CAPE will serve as the lead agency in implementing a program modeled after past year’s Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative. We along with our community partners invite you to join us as we work to improve health outcomes for men in our community. See the flyer below for locations and times that will be providing free blood pressure, glucose, and BMI screenings, as well as men's health information and resources.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the theme for 2026 is "More Good Days, Together," encouraging us all to reflect on what a “good” day looks like, both for ourselves, and for our communities. Mental health is physical health. Whether it’s finding ways to be active, connecting with your community, or remembering to drink water, small wins matter.

March is National Kidney Month, a time when communities across the country raise awareness about kidney disease. This year’s focus is on taking charge of your health and the many factors that go into managing your kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious condition affecting around 35.5 million people. Often overlooked until symptoms appear, CKD is progressive and can put you at risk for serious health complications including heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. Adopting a healthy lifestyle can help you manage CKD and its complications from progressing.

See the tips below for managing CKD.
