If you’re worried about someone, it’s okay to ask them directly: “Are you thinking about hurting yourself?” It’s not going to put the thought in their head, but it can give them permission to be honest. You don’t have to be perfect or be a therapist to help someone who is thinking about su***de. Noticing and showing up and listening makes a real difference.

Male depression doesn’t always look like sadness. It can show up as irritability, anger, withdrawal, working excessively, risk-taking or increased use of alcohol or substances.
For fans of HBO’s The Pitt, this was on full display for the second season of their award winning medical drama.
Depression doesn’t give you a pass just because you’re smart, or successful or attractive.
Therapy and medication can really help if you or your loved one are open to trying them.
