Robert A. Wessel, 73, of Evansville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Bob was born in Red Bud, Illinois on February 13, 1953, to the late Norman and Dorothy (Eggemeyer) Wessel. He was a civil engineer who started his work career at the Texaco Refinery before moving to Wales and working for Pembroke Refinery. Bob and his wife, Melanie, then moved back to the states and he went to work at the John Brown Refinery, then for MPD in Owensboro for over twenty years before retiring from Qualex. Bob enjoyed reading, watching Indiana University basketball, running and gardening, but more than anything he cherished time with his grandchildren.
Surviving Bob are his wife of 47 years, Melanie (Happe) Wessel; children and their spouses, Dusten and Terry Wessel, Chelsea and Jarod Mills, and Laila and Casey Schu; a sister, Kathy (Billy) Kennedy; brother, Jim (Joan) Wessel, and grandchildren, Stella Wessel, Connor Roberts, Parker and Everleigh Wessel, Haven, Toby, Arianna, and Tyler Mills, and Emerson and Griffin Schu.
Funeral services for Bob will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Emily Slade officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
