People sometimes ask, “How many EMDR sessions do I need?” It actually doesn’t work like that. EMDR Therapy is a style of psychotherapy, not a technique. Some people may be misinformed about how this therapy works and may be frustrated they aren’t “doing EMDR” quickly enough or as often. I would love to say it would be as easy as coming in the office and sitting in front of a light bar to feel completely different. While there are certain situations, such as a single incident, that may move rather quickly, EMDR Therapy is structured within an 8 phase protocol. For many clients, they may be looking to try EMDR Therapy as an alternative to other approaches where they may have reached maximum benefit. Be patient and trust the process. It can take time to get through the first two phases before work on specific targets can begin. If you have questions of how this process works, please speak to your current therapist, or feel free to contact me. I love this therapy so much and it saddens me when people have never really given it a chance, for a variety of reasons. There are many resources available from the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA.org) to peruse. This therapy can be tremendously healing work. Don’t leave before the miracle happens!

Why I recommend handwritten journaling rather than type. If this is something you find help, by all means do the journaling in whatever way works for you. Maybe, however, try handwriting it too and see if it can be an even more robust and helpful skill. 🖊️ 📓 keep on writing my friends 💕

Studies show that handwriting provides unique cognitive benefits compared to typing. According to psychology, writing by hand activates multiple neural circuits responsible for memory, attention, and creativity, enhancing overall learning and brain function.

While typing increases speed and efficiency, psychologist says it engages fewer brain regions and promotes passive processing. According to psychology, handwriting requires fine motor skills, planning, and sensory integration, which strengthens neural pathways and improves retention of information.

Research shows that students and professionals who take notes by hand perform better on recall tests and problem-solving tasks. Psychologist says hand movements combined with cognitive effort encode information more deeply, making learning more effective and boosting creative thinking. According to psychological studies, using a pen actively stimulates the brain in ways typing cannot replicate.

Psychologist says incorporating handwriting into daily routines benefits both learning and cognitive development. According to psychology, journaling, note-taking, or planning by hand enhances memory, focus, and creativity, proving that even in a digital world, your pen is mightier than the keyboard for optimizing brain function.

After 9 orthopedic surgeries, including 3 joint replacements, a fused ankle and back surgery, I’m embracing my inner athlete / Serena! Doing pretty darn good even being out there if you ask me. I play my heart out as much as I can. Strength training with the best Coach, Mallory Rafferty, and working on other goals and intentions helps give me something to look forward to… the next pickleball game!!! I don’t always make the best decisions, get upset with myself, and have some hard moments, but what matters is I keep going!
What inspires you? How do you want to show up for yourself today?
Have the best day!!!
