Join Team Bronstein at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s®

Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in the community? The USI Bronstein Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness invites students, employees and friends to join Team Bronstein for the Southwest Indiana Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on Saturday, September 19, at Friedman Park in Newburgh, Indiana.

A brief ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by the walk at 10 a.m.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event dedicated to raising funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. By participating, students have the opportunity to connect with community members, raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and contribute to efforts that help advance critical research toward a cure.

🧩 Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes 🧩

This month, Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC) conducted a powerful poverty simulation at Vincennes University Jasper Campus.

Students from across healthcare disciplines came together to experience the daily challenges faced by individuals living in poverty. They included residents from the Indiana University School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency at Deaconess Memorial Medical Center and students in the practical nursing, associate of science of nursing and CNA programs at Vincennes University Jasper.

Through hands-on role-play and discussion, participants experienced the challenges many individuals face and discovered how empathy and teamwork can help create positive change. 💡💬

Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC), hosted at USI in the Kinney College, presented the 2026 Southwest Indiana AHEC Partnership Matters Award to the outstanding Health Science Education instructors at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center: Ms. Barnett, Ms. Fleenor, Ms. Pruitt, Ms. Stucki, Mr. Bennett and Mr. Green.

"Through their dedication to student success and their willingness to embrace innovative programming, these educators have created meaningful opportunities for students to better understand the academic rigor, professionalism and personal commitment required to pursue careers in healthcare," says Jane Friona, Executive Director of Southwest Indiana AHEC. 🇩🇪🤝🇺🇸 A warm USI welcome to students visiting from Evansville’s sister city, Osnabrück, Germany!

This week, Osnabrück students studying physiotherapy, healthcare management, nursing management and nursing science are connecting with faculty, staff and students across the Kinney College of Nursing and Health Professions while learning about healthcare and education in our region. ✨ They’ve already explored New Harmony and visited Owensboro Medical Practice and Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.

Over the Labor Day weekend, they baked delicious treats with a USI faculty member, were introduced to the sport of pickleball, and played backyard basketball, baseball and corn hole.

Up next on the itinerary are visits to Deaconess Midtown Hospital, ECHO Community Healthcare and the Vanderburgh County Health Department.

We're excited to share our campus, community and healthcare partnerships while learning from our visitors from Germany. Welcome to USI! 💙

Great conversations and a strong turnout at this week's Imaging Sciences Q&A! 👏

Student representatives from Radiologic and Imaging Sciences and Diagnostic Medical Sonography connected with pre-radiology and pre-sonography students, answering questions about admissions, student life, academics and balancing school, work and personal commitments.
