Sometimes in life you need a do-over. 5 years ago we attempted our first family backpacking trip with our kids, who were 5 and 8 at the time, and it did not go as planned. Our puppy was 4 months old and she ate a mushroom that turned out to be poisonous before bed. In the middle of the night our puppy woke, she was twitching, foaming at the mouth, lost balance and could not stand so we had to carry her out in the middle of the night to get her to the vet. Luckily, with the vet's help, she was okay, but we have always wanted to go back and try this trip again. Thankfully, this time our dog did not eat any poisonous mushrooms, no one got sick or injured and it was a successful trip! It took us 5 years to try again, but we were proud of ourselves for tackling this goal!
