I’m excited to share that my article, “The Recovery Math Most High Performers Get Wrong” was published in New Hampshire business review.

Many of us have learned to approach wellness with the same intensity we bring to work: push harder, do more and stay disciplined. But an intense workout can still be another stressor, even when we label it self-care.

In the article, I explore allostatic load, the difference between activity and restoration and why the nervous system sometimes needs an actual deposit, not another withdrawal disguised as self-care.

You don’t need a more complicated wellness routine. You need one that works with your energy instead of constantly asking more from it.

Ayurveda offers ways to support, steady energy, digestion, sleep, and resilience:

1. Eat your largest meal when digestion is strongest.
2. Move enough to feel energized, not depleted.
3. Begin winding down before your body forces you to stop.

Simple doesn’t mean ineffective. These rhythms can change how you feel throughout the entire day.

Save this for the week ahead and tell me which one you need more right now.

Hot yoga isn’t wrong for everyone, but it’s not right for most people either.

I talk to women all the time who are doing this, women in my own circle, genuinely believing they’re doing something healthy for themselves. I was one of them. Years of hot yoga and fast paced power classes, certain it was helping, while actually feeling more depleted, not less.

Your nervous system doesn’t separate the stress of a hard day from the stress of a heated, high intensity class. It reads both as demand. The research on recovery backs that up directly.

I wrote about what’s actually happening physiologically, and why I brought Ashtanga to Sanctuary as a real alternative. Real intensity, real challenge, without the tax on your system.

From a yoga therapist’s point of view, this is why we do things differently.

Heat based practice drives sympathetic nervous system activation, the body’s fight or flight response.

For most people, that’s a manageable, even useful, stimulus. But for women in perimenopause, the nervous system is already navigating heightened cortisol sensitivity and fluctuating core temperature regulation. Layering external heat on top of that doesn’t build resilience. It adds load to a system already working to find equilibrium. Sanctuary’s classes are designed around regulation, not depletion. Because real strength comes from a nervous system that knows how to come back down, not one that’s constantly being asked to spike.
