October is National Spina Bifida Awareness Month, a special opportunity for us to educate about the condition and recognize the over 166,000 people living with it nationwide.

Spina Bifida is a type of neural tube defect that occurs when a baby's spine and spinal cord do not close completely during the 1st month of pregnancy. Spina Bifida can range from mild to severe, and it's unknown what causes it.

Thank you to PA State Rep. Dan Moul for visiting Aveanna patient Ben and his family at home!

Ben lives with SCN2A-related disorder (SRD), a rare neurological condition. His mom, founder of the Families SCN2A Foundation, shared how essential home shift nursing is in helping Ben and other children with complex medical needs live at home while receiving the care they need.

Today marks the beginning of National Epidermolysis Bullosa Awareness Week, a time to raise awareness, increase understanding, and show support for individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

EB is a rare condition that causes the skin to be extremely fragile and prone to blistering. Blisters can develop from minor injuries or everyday friction, rubbing, scratching, or heat, and the severity of EB can vary from mild to severe.

Throughout National EB Awareness Week, we recognize the strength of those living with EB and the families and caregivers who support them. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Aveanna team members who provide compassionate care to our patients living with EB.

Our Aveanna RTs are dedicated to helping others breathe easier and live happier lives. Each day, they provide exceptional care in a variety of ways. They visit patients, set up new equipment, service and troubleshoot clinical respiratory equipment, talk with case managers, patients, and caregivers – and much more! Their work showcases the importance of respiratory care, promotes awareness of lung health issues, and improves the lives of people in all stages of life.
