⚠️ HEALTH ALERT for our Keystone Allergy and Asthma Center Patients ⚠️ The FDA has issued a massive recall for over 3 million bottles of store-brand lubricating eye drops (artificial tears) due to potential bacterial contamination. Affected brands include CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, and more.

If you use daily lubricating drops for dry eyes, please check your medicine cabinets immediately!

🌲 Did you know that a substance hiding in your everyday products could be causing your mysterious skin rash?

Meet COLOPHONIUM — also called Rosin — a sticky resin from pine trees found in hundreds of common products. It's one of the most overlooked contact allergens, and many people don't even know they're reacting to it!

🔍 Common signs of Colophonium allergy:
✅ Red, itchy, inflamed skin
✅ Blisters or oozing rash
✅ Symptoms appearing 1–3 days after exposure
✅ Rash limited to areas of skin contact

📦 Where is it hiding? Adhesive bandages, cosmetics, lip balms, mascara, shoe glues, violin/cello bow rosin, waxing strips, dental cements, and more!

Camp TAG provides a safe place for children with food allergies, eosinophilic disorders, FPIES, Celiac disease, atopic dermatitis (eczema), asthma, and/or mast cell disorders, and their non-allergic siblings to have fun – with no worries about allergic reactions – and meet other children who share similar experiences. Camp TAG provides peer-to-peer networks, support, gaining independence and confidence, and more - everyone has the opportunity to be with others who live it and get it. It is a bonding and empowering week for all campers and counselors, including parents/caregivers.

Camp TAG is 95% fun and 5% educational, with age-appropriate activities and games each day on food allergies, anaphylaxis, nutrition, the emotional impact of living with food allergies (for children with food allergies and their families), and how to stay safe at school and at home. The curriculum was designed and reviewed by FAACT's Medical Advisory Board.

If you have milk allergy, avoiding obvious dairy like milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter is important — but milk proteins can also hide in many ingredients on food labels.

Under U.S. labeling laws, milk is a major allergen, so packaged foods should list “Contains: Milk” somewhere on the label — but it’s still helpful to recognize these ingredient names.

As flu and respiratory virus season ramps up, it’s important to know how these bugs travel and how to protect your household. Most upper respiratory viruses—including the flu—spread via tiny droplets when we cough, sneeze, or even talk.

The "Contagious Window"
Knowing how long you’re a risk to others is key to stopping the spread:

The Flu: You can typically transmit the virus 1 day before symptoms start and up to 5–7 days after becoming sick.

Common Colds: Most people remain contagious for about 2 weeks, though the risk is highest during the first 2–3 days.

What to do if a loved one gets sick:
Hydrate & Rest: The basics are still the best medicine.

Sanitize High-Touch Surfaces: Think doorknobs, light switches, and phone screens.

Create a "Sick Zone": If possible, keep the symptomatic person in a separate room to limit household exposure.

A winter storm is expected in our area this weekend. Here are a few simple steps to help you and your family stay safe and comfortable:

🛒 General Preparedness Tips:
• Fill up your gas tank before the storm arrives
• Stock up on drinking water and easy-to-prepare foods
• Charge phones, tablets, and backup power banks
• Have flashlights, batteries, candles, and matches ready
• Set your thermostat to a steady temperature
• Bring pets indoors and prepare extra pet food
• Park cars away from trees and charge electric vehicles early

🌬️For Our Patients:
• Keep rescue inhalers and daily meds easily accessible
• Make sure you have enough medication refills for several days
• Avoid using scented candles or fireplaces that may worsen breathing
• Run a humidifier if indoor air becomes too dry
• Keep windows closed to reduce cold air triggers
• If you use a nebulizer, ensure it’s fully charged or has backup power
