⚾Fairbury Hits a Home Run with the Quinn Field EECBG Lighting Grant

🏏Fairbury’s historic Quinn Field is getting a major upgrade! We are excited to announce that the City has been awarded a $79,826.00 grant to upgrade electric and lighting at Quinn field. This award was granted through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program designed to help local governments reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions while improving overall efficiency.

This upgrade has been a long time coming, as the field's current poles and electrical system date back to the 1970s. The total cost of this much-needed modernization is expected to be between $160,000 and $180,000. By switching to modern LED technology, the City expects to slash energy consumption by approximately 7,800 kWh yearly while significantly reducing maintenance needs and improving facility safety. To bring the facility up to current codes, the project scope includes completely replacing the field lighting electrical layout and fuse box, installing new poles at the correct height and the addition of new LED sports lighting.

This project has been a true team effort. The City is incredibly grateful for the funding and foundational support from our partners at the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE), Fairbury Legion Baseball, and Fairbury Public Schools. Because the grant only covers a portion of the total budget, community support is vital to bringing this project home. If you are interested in supporting this effort with a tax-deductible contribution, please reach out to the Fairbury Legion Baseball board. Your investment will result in a safer, more attractive, and dependable facility for players and fans to enjoy for years to come. We expect the new lights to be bright and ready for action by October 31, 2026.
