Men’s Health Month is a reminder that pelvic health isn’t just for women.

Around 1 in 6 men experience pelvic floor issues, yet many don’t realize symptoms like low back pain, hip pain, groin discomfort, urinary changes, or performance limitations may be connected.

At Zia Physiotherapy, we provide pelvic and orthopedic care to help active men move better, perform better, and stay active long term.

If something doesn’t feel right, you don’t have to push through it, support is available.

✨ Meet Heather: Zia’s Clinic Operations Manager ✨

Heather McAusland helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes at Zia Physiotherapy and is often one of the first friendly faces our patients connect with. From scheduling and communication to supporting the day-to-day operations of the clinic, she plays a huge role in creating the welcoming experience we value so deeply at Zia.

Originally from Arnold, MD, Heather later relocated to the DC area after earning her degree from Towson University. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active through running, yoga, and strength training, along with traveling, attending live music events, and spending quality time with friends and family

We’re so excited to have Heather as part of the Zia team 🤍

May is Pelvic Pain Awareness Month.

Pelvic pain can show up in many ways, with exercise, sitting, intimacy, or daily activities, and it’s often connected to more than just one area.

If something doesn’t feel right, you don’t have to push through it. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help address the underlying contributors and support a return to comfortable movement.

April is Cesarean Awareness Month. 🤍

A cesarean birth is major abdominal surgery, yet many mothers receive very little guidance for recovery afterward.

Healing after a cesarean involves more than just the incision. It can affect the abdominal wall, pelvic floor, breathing, posture, and core strength.

At Zia Physiotherapy, Sara works with postpartum mothers to support healing after cesarean birth through individualized care focused on scar mobility, core restoration, pelvic floor coordination, and safe return to activity.

If you’ve had a cesarean and something still doesn’t feel quite right, know that you’re not alone and support is available.

Jaw pain is rarely just about the jaw.

Many people assume jaw pain or headaches are purely a dental issue, but the jaw is closely connected to the neck, posture, breathing patterns, and nervous system.

We recently collaborated with Dr. Marzban to explore how these systems work together and why a whole-body approach can matter when it comes to jaw and neck pain.

You can read the full article from this collaboration at the link in our bio.

If you have questions about jaw pain, posture, or headaches you’d like us to explore in future posts, feel free to send us a DM.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. 💛

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, yet many wait years for diagnosis.

Painful periods are common, but they are NOT normal when they:
• Stop you from working or exercising
• Cause nausea, vomiting, or fainting
• Make intimacy painful
• Create chronic pelvic or low back pain

At Zia Physiotherapy, we support women with endometriosis through:
✨ Pelvic floor therapy
✨ Pain science education
✨ Scar & fascial mobility work
✨ Nervous system regulation strategies
✨ Strength training tailored to your cycle

You deserve answers. You deserve to be heard. You deserve care that looks at your whole body.

If you’ve been told “this is just part of being a woman”, it’s not.

DM us to learn how pelvic PT can help.

Injury prevention isn’t reactive. It’s strategic.

Sara recently partnered with Rise Up Racing to lead a virtual session on running efficiency and injury prevention, focusing on how to recognize and respond to small symptoms before they become major setbacks.

We discussed:

• strength integration for longevity

• cadence and tissue load management

• footwear strategy and recovery

• and yes, how perimenopause and hormonal shifts can impact tissue tolerance and injury risk

Because performance doesn’t exist separate from physiology.

We love collaborating with teams who prioritize long term health and smart training.

If your team or club is interested in a workshop or running assessment session, we’d love to connect.

If you’re an individual runner who wants personalized feedback, message us “RUN.”

Sexual health is health, and it deserves space, education, and zero shame.

Sexual health isn’t just about s*x. It includes:
• pelvic floor health
• hormonal balance
• pain with in*******se
• libido changes
• postpartum & pregnancy support
• endometriosis, pcos, and chronic pelvic pain
• mental and emotional well-being

So many people struggle silently with symptoms they’ve been told are “normal” or something they should just live with: pain, discomfort, leaks, low desire, fear, or confusion about their own bodies.

Here’s the truth:
✨ you deserve answers
✨ you deserve support
✨ you deserve care that listens

This month (and always), let’s normalize conversations around s*xual health, advocate for our bodies, and remind ourselves that asking questions is powerful.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone and help exists.

Drop a 🤍 or share this to help keep the conversation going.

Not all pain is created equal. Some aches are part of getting stronger, or part of pregnancy changes, and fade with rest and movement. But when your body starts waving the white flag with sharper, worsening, or lingering pain, it's asking for professional support. Not sure where your symptoms fall? That's what we're here for.
