Today is World Humanitarian Day.
So here's something worth understanding about how our missions actually work: most of the people on them are not full-time aid workers.
They're surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, dentists, pharmacists with clinics and mortgages and children. They take annual leave. They arrange cover. They pay to be there. Then they fly home on a Sunday and are back at work on Monday.
No salary. No title. Often no photographs of the hardest parts.
To every IMANA volunteer who has done this β in Aden, in Cox's Bazar, in Amman, in Gaza, in Swat: thank you. You are the organization. Everything else is logistics.
