January is national Glaucoma Awareness Month. Most people have heard of glaucoma but don't know what it is. Glaucoma, typically, causes progressive, painless loss of vision. If it goes untreated, the disease can cause a loss of peripheral vision that eventually ends in tunnel-like vision. Anyone can get glaucoma but those more at risk include:
👀 Those over 60
👀 Black, Asian, and Hispanic populations
👀 Anyone with a family history of glaucoma
👀 Anyone with a history of trauma to their eye
👀 Very near sighted or very far sighted people
👀 Those with a history of steroid use

How can you tell if you have glaucoma? You probably can't- which is why an annual eye exam is so important! While there's no cure for glaucoma, we can prevent it from causing blindness. Visit our website or call us to schedule an appointment!
