Glen Russell Ellis, 93, of Fairfield passed away at 2:25 PM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at his home surrounded by his children. He was employed at Kincaid’s for 50 years. Glen was born in Wayne County on December 4, 1932, to Norris and Esta (Simon) Ellis. He was a lifelong member of Ellen Moore Mission, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and was always witnessing to others.

Glen is survived by his children, Glenda (Bruce) Bennett of Marion, Jerry (Sharon) Ellis of Statesville NC, and Pam (Gary) Caudle of Fairfield; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great-great-grandson; and special friend, Darlene Gifford of Fairfield.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Ruth Ellis; son, Ronnie Ellis; brother, Delbert Ellis; and sister, Geneva Gregory.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Ellen Moore Mission in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11AM until the time of service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen and will be accepted at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home.

Eva Marie Lane, 99, of Fairfield passed away at 8:28 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in the Skilled Care Unit at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She retired from Airtex after 35 years, having worked in various positions, including credit manager. Eva was born in Geff on April 9, 1927, to John Stanton Jefferson and Nellie (Gray) Jelley. She joined the Methodist Church in 1947 and was a member of Cornerstone Church where she taught Sunday School. Eva also volunteered at FMH and was a member of the Auxiliary. She enjoyed board games, working in stained glass, camping, and traveling. On April 26, 1947, Eva married Alfred Lane in Fairfield. They were married 62 years before his passing in 2009.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Robyn (Melvin) Donoho of Fairfield and Gail (Michael) Conrey of Olney; grandchildren, Craig Donoho, Rachel (Mark) McPeak, Aaron (Kinsey) Donoho, and Christopher (Anna) Donoho; great-grandchildren, Dakota King, Kylee Gregory, Logan Donoho, Lucas Donoho, and Isabella Donoho; sister- Velma Bunting of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Lane; brothers, Floyd Young, Perry Young, James Jelley, Donald Jelley, and Ray Jelley; and sisters; Julia Jelley and Lois Totten.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home with burial in Bestow Cemetery in Geff. Visitation will be from 12PM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Church and will be accepted at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home.

Margie F. Marvel, 93, formerly of Fairfield, passed away at 3:45am on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Greentree at Mt. Vernon Assisted Living and Memory Care.

Margie was born on July 12, 1932, in Olney, IL, to Chester and Margie (Marks) Totten. On July 14, 1948, at the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Billy Marvel. Their union lasted 36 years despite numerous obstacles and challenges. During this time, they both enjoyed being in several bowling leagues where Margie bowled numerous 200+ games, was league champion, mixed league champion, and earned the “women’s high” series.

Later in life, Margie went on to earn her high school GED and worked as a waitress as well as Airtex Products. She transitioned into a homemaker after having their only child, Melody, which she adored.

Margie enjoyed volunteering at Fairfield Memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross, where she was an avid blood donor. In 1987, she was installed as Worthy Matron of the Ruby Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed this organization immensely and was a member for numerous years.

Her most important accomplishment in life was being baptized by Rev. Carroll Kakac on March 28, 1999. After that day, she became a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Margie spent most of her life in Fairfield but, in her later years, she relocated to Mt. Vernon, IL, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Melody (Scott) Cravens of Mt. Vernon, IL, her grandchildren Amy Green, Briar Harkins, Rylan Cravens, Aaron Cravens, and Austin Cravens, along with her four nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Neil Totten, Leo Totten, and Glenn Totten.

Funeral services for Margie Marvel will be at 11am on Saturday, June 13th, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Brown Cemetery near Mt. Erie, IL. Visitation will be from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Marla Joy Hargraves, 82 of Fairfield passed away at 7:47 AM, Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. Born January 29, 1944, in Sims, IL to Herschel and Irene Legg, she was a caring and supportive lady to all throughout her life and a lover of animals.

She was raised in Sims, IL, and graduated in the Wayne City High School Class of 1961 as Valedictorian, then went on to graduate Cosmetology School and received her A.A.S. in Business Administration from Fairfield Community College. She worked for the Wayne County Abstract Company 20 years then in Admitting for Fairfield Memorial Hospital for 31 years. She was also Secretary at the Northside Baptist Church for many years.

Marla is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Hargraves, son, Tim Hargraves of Fairfield, and grandson, Tyler Hargraves, in Owensboro, KY. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Legg, her mother, Irene Legg, and her father, Herschel Legg.

Marla Hargraves will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home is handling cremation.

Maureen Brockett, 76 of Fairfield, passed away at 10:53 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2026, at her home. Born on September 9, 1949, in London, UK to Joseph and Joan (Grinnell) Peploe, she had worked in healthcare.

Maureen is survived by 5 children- Nicola Mulzer of Fairfield, Nathanual Brockett of Elberfeld, IN, Daniel Brockett of Fairfield, Vanessa (Kevin) Garrett of Griffin, IN, and Sylvia Smock of Boonville, IN, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister Teresa (Mick) Tuttle of Kent, UK, several nieces and nephews including Dean, Ruth, and Laura, her beloved dog Boris, and special friend Henrietta Eckleberry. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers Cheyanne Garrett and Carrie Cullins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loyal Benjamin Brockett, and brother Harry Peploe.

Funeral services for Maureen Brockett will be held at 1 PM, Friday, June 12th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Barnhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials in her honor may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Evalou Greene, 70, of Fairfield passed away on Saturday June 6, 2026, at St Louis University Hospital. She was born in Fairfield on October 18, 1955, to Milton Glen and Hazel (Dillman) Hampton.

Evalou is survived by her daughter Misti (Ryan) Thomason of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister- Glenda Isle and brother- Ernie Hampton.

Evalou will be cremated with no formal services being held.

Memorials may be made to help with the cremation expenses and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral home which is assisting the family with cremation.

Richard L. Koontz, 90 of Fairfield, passed away at 3:33 AM, Friday, June 5, 2026, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Born on May 8, 1936, in Wayne County to Francis and Lora (Roundtree) Koontz, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Air Force from 1957-1965. After he left the Air Force he worked for McDonnell Douglas in Missouri, Southern Wholesale in Fairfield, drove a truck for Brach’s in Fairfield, owned and operated Koontz Water Service, and the State of Illinois Highway Department in Fairfield, which he retired from. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Richard is survived by his wife Betty (Maricle) Koontz of Fairfield, son Victor Koontz of Mt. Vernon, IL, grandchildren Tanner Koontz of Cape Girardeau, MO and Stevie Koontz of Nashville. TN, brothers Kennard Koontz of Fairfield and Gary (Tisha) Koontz of Carterville, IL, and sisters Betty Newby of Fairfield and Ann (Bobby Joe) Green of Eufaula, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers- Roger, Ardell, Donald, and Kenneth.

Funeral services for Richard Koontz will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, June 9th at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials in his honor may be made to the Fairfield First Baptist Church or the Carmi Baptist Children’s Home and will be accepted at the funeral home.
