Question: Can PT help with arthritis, or do I just have to live with it?

Answer: You absolutely do not have to just live with it. While PT can’t reverse arthritis, it can significantly reduce pain, improve function, and slow progression. Strengthening the muscles around an arthritic joint takes pressure off the damaged cartilage. Improving mobility keeps the joint from stiffening further. Many of our patients with arthritis in their hips, knees, and spine return to the activities they love that they thought were gone forever like gardening or walking the grandkids. Movement is truly medicine and we try to provide you the tools and knowledge to move your body even after your visits with us conclude!

Question: What’s the difference between a physical therapist and a chiropractor?

Answer: Both can help with musculoskeletal pain, but the approaches are different. Chiropractors focus primarily on spinal manipulation and joint alignment. Physical therapists focus on restoring movement, strength, and function through exercise, manual therapy, and patient education — addressing the root cause of why pain keeps coming back. PTs also work across the whole body, not just the spine, and treat post-surgical rehab, neurological conditions, and sports injuries. Many people benefit from both at different times. They’re complementary, not competing.

We were having so much fun at Miles for Meg: Megan Stephenson Memorial 5k that we forgot to take a team photo 😆

Elevate is proud to support this event each year, keeping runners hydrated and providing some post race fuel at the finish line! We are honored the Stephenson family always saves us a spot where we get to witness the growth year over year. Our team, especially the littlest members, look forward to this event each summer. Question: At what age should my child be saying words and sentences?

Answer: General milestones to know- most children say their first words around 12 months, use about 50 words by 18–24 months, and begin combining two words (“more milk,” “daddy go”) by age 2. By age 3, most children are using short sentences and are understandable to strangers about 75% of the time. These are ranges, not hard deadlines, but if your child isn’t hitting them, an evaluation is always worth doing. Early intervention for speech and language delays produces dramatically better outcomes, and an evaluation will either give you a plan or give you peace of mind. As parents, we can worry, so being proactive and setting up an evaluation can help you better understand your child's needs and progress!

Question: What exactly does an occupational therapist do?

The simplest way to put it: OTs help people do the things that matter to them. “Occupation” doesn’t just mean your job, it means every meaningful activity in your life: getting dressed, cooking a meal, writing, playing, driving, caring for your kids or grand kids. When an injury, illness, developmental delay, or aging makes those things harder, OT is there to step in and help. We assess what’s getting in the way — whether it’s strength, coordination, cognition, sensory processing, or the environment itself — and we build a plan to get you back to living fully.
