A calm, beautiful birth story and a stressed baby nervous system aren't mutually exclusive β and that surprises a lot of parents. π€
Even in the gentlest births, baby's body absorbs significant physical forces simply moving through the birth canal β compression, rotation, and traction on the head, neck, and spine that every baby experiences to some degree, regardless of how smoothly the birth went.
This isn't about anything going "wrong"; it's simply what the birth process asks of a tiny, still-developing body. That physical stress can show up afterward as difficulty settling, a preference for turning the head one direction, trouble feeding on one side, or a nervous system that seems to stay a little more "wound up" than expected.
That's why we love checking newborns early: a gentle, non-invasive scan lets us see how their neuro-spinal system is adapting to life outside the womb, so we can support that transition from the very start.
