Meet the Sage FAM, featuring Sarah.
Part of the Sage FAM since 2019
Why I Teach:
I’ve practiced yoga for 25 years. Nine years ago, I decided to get certified to teach in response to military orders my husband received to a somewhat remote duty station. I wanted to have something to make myself marketable so I could contribute to supporting my family. As it turned out though, teaching has been one of my greatest joys and privileges, not just a business transaction!
One Piece of Advice for New Students:
New steps can be very uncomfortable no matter what they are. Stick with it. Growth will follow with time and consistent practice. I promise!
What do you hope students feel during your class and/or when they leave your class?
I always hope students have fun with me. I hope they look forward to joining me and working on challenging transitions between asanas and working on trying new things. I also hope they learn something they can take into their home practice. I hope they feel proud of themselves for showing up and every time they realize an advancement in the extension of any asana available to them.
A lesson yoga has taught me has been to change my perspective. Thank you to Patanjali for that! Atha yoga anushasanam. You don’t have to endure a task ahead of you. You get to grow from the experience. (We don’t have to do planks, we get to do planks. If you know, you know 😂)
Recently, I’ve been loving the heat! I think I lived my first earthly life as a lizard baking on a hot rock somewhere in the desert.
Outside the studio:
I’m lucky to have in my life a loving husband, three healthy, handsome, smart, kind sons, three cats (one of whom is BAD everyday), and two dogs. I’m very close with my two sisters, and I have developed a closeness with friends that makes them feel like family.
I love Sage and everything it’s done for me, allowed me to offer to others, and for being a constant and consistent place of community.
