Exciting news in Alzheimer’s research!

A groundbreaking new study from the Banner Sun Health Research Institute has found that a simple, non-invasive blood test could one day protect Alzheimer's patients from dangerous treatment side effects.

New anti-amyloid therapies are changing the game, but they can sometimes cause serious brain swelling or bleeding. Right now, expensive MRI scans are the only way to screen for these risks, and they often miss subtle signs.

Banner researchers have identified a panel of 5 biomarkers in the blood that can predict a patient’s underlying risk with 93% accuracy. This proof-of-concept discovery could pave the way for safer, more precise and highly personalized Alzheimer's care.

We are honored to recognize Rachel Ferguson, RN, for receiving the DAISY Award for her extraordinary compassion and humanity during one of the most difficult moments in healthcare. Rachel demonstrated the true heart of nursing. While providing expert clinical care, she also offered profound comfort to a grieving mother experiencing unimaginable loss.

As shared in the nomination:

"I watched Rachel display humanity and grace. She immediately hugged her, rubbed her back, coaxing her to take deep breaths, doing the best she could in that moment to provide remorse and just love for a mom in need when there is not much you can do to make anything better."

Rachel's ability to be fully present, offering both skilled care and genuine human connection, exemplifies the compassion that defines Banner Health nursing. Her actions remind us that sometimes the most powerful medicine we can offer is simply being there, with an open heart and steady presence.

Thank you, Rachel, for your dedication, your kindness, and for showing us what it means to care for the whole person during life's most challenging moments. You inspire us all.
