Meet Jenna

One of the questions I hear most is, “How do I know which therapist is right for me?”

The truth is, the relationship with your therapist matters. Sometimes progress isn’t about trying harder. It’s about finding the therapist who’s the right fit.

Jenna enjoys working with adults navigating anxiety, relationships, life transitions, and exploring the unique challenges of military life. If you’re considering therapy but aren’t sure where to begin, we’d be happy to help.

Schedule a free 15-minute consultation, and we’ll help connect you with the clinician who best fits your goals, personality, and preferences.

📍 Virtual therapy throughout Virginia & Washington, DC

Social media sometimes labels any caring person as codependent.

Wanting, missing or needing people does not automatically make you co-dependent.

That's not how the concept was originally understood.

The issue isn't really about carining, the issue is when your well-being becomes dependent on managing someone else's emotions, choices, or problems.

Helping is healthy.

Connecting is healthy.

Wanting, needing and enjoying others' company is healthy.

Losing yourself isn't.

The Conversation You Never Got

Sometimes we wait for one more conversation.

One more explanation.
One more apology.
One more chance to be understood.

Sometimes that conversation comes.

Sometimes it doesn't.

This is incredibly painful for most people and healing isn't about pretending that isn't painful.

It's about learning what to do when the answers never come.

Have you ever had to find closure without getting the conversation you wanted?

What was helpful for you?

Are therapy and friendship the same thing?

A good friend can provide support, encouragement, laughter, and perspective.

A therapist brings something different:
training, objectivity, clinical knowledge, and a dedicated space focused entirely on your growth.

This is not either/or, most people need both.

Healing happens through connection, and healthy relationships are one of the most powerful predictors of well-being.

Do you think they are the same?

The various shapes of people pleasing

People pleasing is a complicated topic. It can be shaped by culture, gender roles, family dynamics, or the environments we grew up in.

Sometimes it looks like being easygoing or never asking for much.

Sometimes it looks like being the person everyone can count on. Those can all be beautiful qualities.

The question is whether they're coming from choice... or from fear. That can usually help distinguish the motivation.

I'm curious what you think.

Have you ever realized that something you thought was just part of your personality was actually something you learned to do?

Self-compassion isn't about making excuses or lowering your standards.

It's about responding to yourself with kindness when life feels hard—especially after you've made a mistake.

Instead of asking, "What's wrong with me?"

Try asking, "What do I need right now?"

That simple shift can create space for growth instead of shame.

✨ Self-compassion isn't letting yourself off the hook—it's giving yourself the support to keep going

Books may have one author's name on the cover, but they're never created by one person.

No one writes a book alone. Here is part of my village.
Over the past few years, this book has been read, questioned, challenged, edited, redesigned, reformatted, and encouraged by people who believed in it long before anyone else could hold it.

Brian .sound patiently marked up chapter after chapter. He said "You have to edit for the pickiest reader."

Sonal somehow transformed hundreds of pages into something beautiful to hold in your hands. She'd laugh in frustration "InDesign needs to behave itself, it's very naughty"

There are still some final changes before release, but looking back at these photos reminds me that even though it often felt like it, this has never really been a solo project.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring these pages to life.

Almost there.

Learning is powerful—but only if it leads somewhere.

Reading another book, listening to another podcast, or taking another course can feel productive...

But if you're always collecting information without putting it into practice, learning may have become a way to avoid taking action.

Insight creates awareness.
Action creates change.

✨ Growth doesn't come from knowing more—it comes from applying what you already know

In honor of Men's Mental Health Month.

One reason this chart became popular is because many people were never taught the language of emotions.

We often learn "fine," "good," "angry," and not much beyond that.

The ability to name emotions doesn't make someone weak.
It helps us understand what is happening internally so we can respond rather than react.

At Oak Tree, we believe healing begins with awareness.

Sometimes the first step isn't changing how you feel.

It's actually finding the words for it first.
