Progressive Pediatric Therapy is a full service pediatric therapy practice located in Falls Church, Our practice provides PT, OT, SLP, and Art Therapies.

Progressive Pediatric Therapy is a pediatric therapy practice located in Falls Church, Virginia. We serve infants, toddlers, and school aged children using a child-focused developmental play program. We work with children with a range of needs including developmental delay, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, orthopedic problems, hypo and hypertonia, Torticollis, Premature infants, and many others. Our therapy programs are on a one-on-one basis with a licensed therapist. Each session is individualized to meet the needs of the child and the family.

✈️ Traveling can be exciting... but for children with sensory processing differences, it can also be overwhelming.

New environments, loud noises, bright lights, crowds, schedule changes, and long periods of sitting can all make travel more challenging. 💙

The good news? A little preparation can go a long way.

These are a few of my favorite OT strategies to help support regulation while traveling:
🧳 Prepare with visuals
🎧 Pack familiar sensory supports
🏃 Build in movement before long periods of sitting
🥨 Use crunchy or chewy snacks for sensory input
🤍 Have a calm-down plan ready
✨ Remember: progress over perfection.

Every child is different, and what works for one family may not work for another. The goal isn’t a “perfect” vacation—it’s helping your child feel supported so your family can make meaningful memories together.

The backpacks are packed away, the school year is complete, and summer fun has officially begun! ☀️🍦

What better way to celebrate than with ice cream and great company? Thank you to all of our clients, families, staff, and community friends who joined us this week for our Ice Cream Social at Jake’s Ice Cream. We loved kicking off summer with you!

Speech session challenge: Can a smell make you feel “amped up”… or “sleepy”? 🤔

Our SLP feeding session was all about exploring spices with a “sniff test” from Penzey’s! We smelled cinnamon, cloves, garlic, smoked paprika, and more—then used our energy meter to describe how each scent made us feel.

No pressure to eat. Just curiosity, play, and building positive experiences with food. 💛

Next up: mixing our favorite seasonings into rice and seeing which flavors make the final cut! 🍚✨

A simple Play-Doh maze with so many therapeutic benefits! 🌀✨

In this activity, our client created a Play-Doh labyrinth and then navigated it using different hand positions, targeting:

• Bilateral coordination
• Motor planning
• Visual-motor integration
• Forearm supination (palm-up positioning)
• Hand and wrist control

By changing the position of the forearm and challenging both dominant and non-dominant hands, we can build the foundational skills needed for everyday tasks like dressing, feeding, handwriting, and tool use.

The best part? To kids, it just feels like play! 💙

Our art therapist recently spent time with a local Girl Scout troop exploring friendship, compromise, and kindness through creativity. 💜

Each girl designed a quilt square that represented who she is, then worked together to discover commonalities with their friends’ squares. It was a fun, meaningful way to practice empathy, connection, and being a good friend.

A successful day filled with creativity, learning, and lots of smiles!

Primitive reflexes play an important role in early development, but when they remain active beyond infancy, they can sometimes impact coordination, posture, balance, visual-motor skills, attention, and motor planning.

In this session, we incorporated activities targeting:
⭐ ATNR (Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex)
⭐ STNR (Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex)
⭐ TLR (Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex)

While reflex integration is only one piece of the puzzle, these movement-based activities can help support the foundational skills needed for participation in everyday occupations.
