💪✨ YAS! FITNESS! is back! ✨💪
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, we welcomed Dr. Yasameen, DPT, back for another amazing YAS! FITNESS! workshop with our ECDC community! 🏋️‍♀️💚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During this interactive two-hour session, the women learned:
🏃‍♀️ Why exercise matters for our overall health
💪 What functional exercise is and why it’s important
🏋️‍♀️ How to use proper form when lifting weights to help protect our backs and prevent injuries
🔥 Why warming up and cooling down are essential
❤️ The four types of exercise and how each supports our health
But we didn’t just talk about exercise—we got moving! The women practiced what they learned and had a wonderful time exercising together. Now THAT is what we call active learning! 🙌💪
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A huge thank you to Dr. Yasameen for making fitness approachable, fun, and empowering, and to ECDC for this incredible partnership and for continuing to help us bring meaningful health education directly to our community. 💚

Today we kicked off Pain Awareness Month with an interactive EBYM workshop at the Wellness Center for Older Adults (WCOA)!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Attendees learned about different types of pain, pain management strategies, and ways to make informed decisions about their health. We ended the workshop with a fun game of pain charades, where participants acted out different types of pain—like a leg spasm, stomachache, or headache—while everyone else tried to guess! 🎭🙋‍♀️ The room was full of participation, laughter, and learning!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pictured are Dr. Se-a Han, our Safety-Net Health Equity Fellow Dr. Angel Edwards, and our new APPE student Makayla. 💙
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you to WCOA and all of our wonderful participants for another engaging workshop! We love finding creative ways to make health education both informative and fun. ✨

This past Thursday, we kicked off our first YAS! FITNESS workshop as part of our Refugee Education Series! 💪💚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We met participants right where they were, their townhome community gym, to provide hands-on education on how to safely and confidently use gym equipment. We also discussed nutrition and the important connection between exercise and mental health. 🧠🥗🏃‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Attendees received yoga mats and resistance bands, and Dr. Yasameen, DPT, demonstrated exercises and showed participants how to use them properly!
We had such a wonderful time learning, moving, and exercising together, and we’re already looking forward to Part II! ✨

🧠💛 Understanding ADHD & Autism: Part 1 of 3!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, we kicked off our three-part Children’s Mental Health series with our first workshop focused on ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)!
Parents learned about typical child development, early signs of ADHD and autism, evidence-based treatment options, available school and community supports, and when to seek an evaluation. Most importantly, we emphasized that every child is unique and that understanding, early support, and the right resources can make a meaningful difference. 🌱
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A huge thank you to our wonderful presenters, Leila and Dr. Nazaneen, for leading such an informative and engaging session! We had a fantastic turnout, and we loved hearing the thoughtful and important questions from our participants. 💬❤️
