CHI Health at Home We Honor Veterans was honored to award Vietnam Veteran Vern B. with a Quilt of Valor during his Veteran Pinning ceremony surrounded by his family and friends. His wife Jane and sons Tim and Hans were honored to assist in wrapping him.
Vern enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He completed his basic training in San Diego, California, and his ITR (infantry training) at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California. Vern served in Vietnam from 1968 to July 1969. When he returned stateside, he was an instructor at Camp Pendleton, Del Mar. Vern was honorably discharged in 1970. His rank at discharge was E-4 Corporal and his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) was 1833 Amtrack which was a personnel carrier from ship to shore.�
Vern was awarded the Purple Heart, earned Navy Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Marine Corps Marksman Rifle Badge.
Vern is a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and was very proud of his service. He went on the Western ND Honor Flight in 2024.
