Amanda Burner, LCSW/LICSW has a couple of rare openings for new clients in her schedule. We asked her a few questions about working with her in therapy so people can determine if she might be a good fit for them!!!
Why did you choose to become a mental health professional?
As a teenager, I had several friends—including myself—who struggled with mental health. I remember many of my friends not liking their therapists, and I often thought I wanted to become a therapist someday—someone young people actually felt comfortable talking to. I’ve always been interested in learning about people and how we interact with others and our world.
Who are you as a therapist/What’s therapy with you like?
I love to hear people’s stories! I am open, non-judgmental and try to meet my clients where they are on their journey. I work collaboratively with clients on their goals for therapy while also looking “big picture” at how they are functioning in their world.
What clients do you work with?
I enjoy working with women of all ages. Special areas of interest for me are ADHD, maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, and the life transitions women face that can be challenging.
Why are you most passionate about? What sets you apart?
My biggest area of passion is assessing, diagnosing, and treating women with ADHD. Traditionally, ADHD has been seen as a disorder that young boys have, but in recent years, it’s becoming more widely accepted and understood that we don’t “grow out” of ADHD and females are just as likely to have ADHD as males.
I have additional training and education around ADHD which many mental health professionals may not have as women with ADHD are still misperceived by many. I am honored to work with women who have ADHD to help them better understand their brain and the changes they can make to better manage their lives.
What is your favorite part of being a therapist?
Hearing people’s stories —who they are, their experiences, where they’ve come from, and gently working alongside them to navigate how to make changes to improve their experiences.
Please give us a call if you would like an appointment with Amanda!!!
