Don't ignore the signs. Your body may be trying to tell you something.

Changes in your bowel habits, blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal pain, or ongoing fatigue shouldn't be brushed aside. While these symptoms don't always mean colorectal cancer, they're signs worth discussing with a healthcare provider.

The good news? When colorectal cancer is found early, it's one of the most treatable cancers. Screening can detect precancerous polyps before they become cancer or catch cancer in its earliest stages when treatment is most effective.

Listen to your body. Know the signs. Get screened.

Colon polyps are small growths that develop on the lining of the colon. While most polyps are noncancerous, some can turn into colorectal cancer over time if they're left untreated.

One of the biggest advantages of a colonoscopy is that many polyps can be found and removed during the same procedure often before they ever become cancerous.

That's why routine screening is about more than early detection it's about prevention. 💙

Could you be at a higher risk for colorectal cancer? Here are 5 factors to know. 👇

🔹 1. Age 45+
Your risk increases as you get older, which is why routine colorectal cancer screening now begins at age 45 for most adults.

🧬 2. Family History
If a parent, sibling, or child has had colorectal cancer, your own risk may be higher. Talk with your doctor about when you should start screening.

🥩 3. Diet
A diet high in red or processed meats has been linked to an increased risk of colon cancer.

🚭🍷 4. Smoking & Heavy Alcohol Use
Both smoking and excessive alcohol use increase the risk of colorectal cancer, along with many other serious health conditions.

🏃 5. Obesity & Physical Inactivity
A sedentary lifestyle and carrying extra weight can also increase your risk.

The good news? Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when it's found early. Regular screening can detect and remove precancerous polyps before they become cancer.

When it comes to colorectal cancer screening, there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Both the FIT Test and colonoscopy can play an important role in protecting your health.

🏠 FIT Test
✔ Convenient at-home screening
✔ No bowel prep required
✔ No sedation needed
✔ Recommended annually

🩺 Colonoscopy
✔ Most comprehensive screening method
✔ Can detect and remove precancerous polyps
✔ Typically recommended every 10 years for average-risk individuals
✔ Helps prevent cancer before it starts

The most important thing? Getting screened.

In November 2024, James Van Der Beek shared that he was living with stage 3 colorectal cancer.

His story is a heartbreaking reminder that colon cancer doesn’t only affect older adults. More and more cases are being diagnosed in people under 50.

Symptoms like changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, ongoing abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, or persistent fatigue shouldn’t be brushed off. Even if you feel otherwise healthy.

If something feels off, speak up. If you’re 45 or older, schedule screening. These conversations matter.
