Yesterday was a sweet day at Union General Hospital! 🍉 We enjoyed a visit from Miss Louisiana Watermelon Festival, Geneviève Wetzel, and Miss Louisiana Watermelon Festival’s Teen, Julia Cox. They arrived just in time to grab a slice of one of the watermelons auctioned at the Watermelon Festival auction!

The supplies will benefit our employees’ families and participants in the It’s a Girl Thing and Making Proud Choices program. Union General Hospital is proud to launch the Healthcare Employment Reinvestment Opportunity (HERO) Nursing Workforce Advancement Pathway, made possible through funding from the Louisiana Department of Health in partnership with Louisiana Delta Community College.

Union General Hospital is matching the State’s HERO funding to invest in future nurses and strengthen healthcare in Union Parish.

The program provides financial assistance for approved nursing education and eligible educational expenses for students pursuing:

This opportunity is open to current Union General Hospital employees and qualified community members who are interested in pursuing a nursing career and building their future with Union General Hospital.

Union General Hospital was honored to join the community in recognizing Dr. Kathy Stockton's retirement and welcoming Karen Ray as the new Superintendent of Union Parish Schools.

As valued community partners, Union Parish Schools and Union General Hospital share a commitment to improving the lives of the families we serve. We are grateful for Dr. Stockton's years of dedicated leadership, service, and commitment to education, and we wish her and her family all the best as she begins this new chapter.

We also extend a warm welcome to Karen Ray as she assumes this important leadership role. We wish her continued success and look forward to working together to serve the students, families, and communities of Union Parish.

Last night at our It's a Girl Thing meeting, we had an important conversation about staying safe online. The girls learned the dangers of sexting, how to identify warning signs of online predators, and make smart, confident choices when using social media and other digital platforms.

We are so appreciative to Lieutenant Marcie Cooper from the Union Parish Sheriff's Office for sharing valuable information and helping equip our girls with the knowledge they need to stay safe online!

By building awareness and encouraging open conversations, we're helping empower young women to protect themselves, trust their instincts, and know what to do if faced with a situation where something doesn't feel right.

What an incredible weekend at the 2026 Watermelon Festival!

Union General Hospital was honored to serve as the Title Sponsor of this year's Watermelon Festival, proudly organized by the Farmerville Jaycees. It was a privilege to support this outstanding community tradition and celebrate alongside so many friends, neighbors, and visitors.
Throughout the weekend, our team enjoyed participating in the Watermelon Festival Parade, taking part in the exciting Watermelon Auction, and welcoming hundreds of visitors to our booth. One of the highlights was watching children and adults alike spin our prize wheel for a chance to win fun prizes while visiting with our staff.

From the vendors and delicious food to the live entertainment, street dance, family activities, and, of course, plenty of watermelon, the festival was a wonderful celebration of our community.

A special thank you to the Farmerville Jaycees for the countless hours of planning and hard work that made this year's festival such a tremendous success. We are grateful to everyone who stopped by our booth and look forward to continuing to serve and support our community.

We were honored to attend the Union Voter's League Banquet last night and celebrate the individuals who make an impact in our community. We would like to congratulate all of this year's award recipients, whose dedication, leadership, and service make Union Parish a stronger community.

Join us for our next It's a Girl Thing meeting as we talk about Staying Safe Online!

This month's meeting will focus on the realities of being online, helping girls understand the risks, recognize unhealthy online situations, and learn how to protect themselves and support others. This session will be led by Detective Sergeant Christi Sparks from the Union Parish Sheriff's Office. Participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to make safe, responsible choices online.

We welcome new participants at every meeting - a parent or guardian just need to fill out an enrollment form which is available on-site.
