What an OT Sees 👀🧣

To many people, this looks like a child pulling scarves out of a container.

To an OT, we see:
✨ Bilateral coordination
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Motor planning
✨ Visual attention
✨ Curiosity and problem-solving
✨ Fine motor skill development

Through play, children build the foundational skills they need for everyday activities like dressing, feeding, writing, and participating in school and family life.

Sometimes the simplest activities can support some of the biggest developmental gains. ❤️

The “double empathy problem” reminds us that communication challenges between neurodivergent and neurotypical people are not one-sided. It’s not simply that neurodivergent individuals struggle to communicate — it’s that people with different communication styles, experiences, and ways of processing the world can misunderstand each other both ways.

When we shift from asking “How do we make this child appear more typical?” to “How do we better understand and connect with this child?” everything changes. 💛
