According to SAMHSA’s 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), approximately 21.2 million adults had a co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder.

The most common mental disorders:
• Anxiety and mood disorders
• Schizophrenia
• Bipolar disorder
• Major depressive disorder
• Conduct disorders
• Post-traumatic stress disorder
• Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

It is important to note that combining medications used for treating SUDs with anxiety treatment medications—such as benzodiazepines—can have serious adverse effects. Common benzodiazepines include Xanax, Va**um, and Klonopin, among others.
Co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders are highly treatable and we are here to support your recovery every step of the way.

About 6 in 10 middle and high school students aren’t getting enough sleep on school nights, and the effects go beyond tiredness. Insufficient sleep is linked to higher risk of anxiety, depression, and difficulty concentrating in class. 🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏼‍♀️

Teens need 8-10 hours a night; kids ages 6-12 need 9-12. As fall routines return, start shifting bedtime 15 minutes earlier each night this week to help your child’s body adjust before the first bell rings.

It is important to recognize the signs of burnout before they start and use protective and proactive strategies to remain productive and sustain your focus and energy.

Burnout can feel like:
Constant exhaustion
Struggling to focus, making simple mistakes or difficulty making decisions
Often feeling irritable or anxious
Frequent headaches, muscle tension or digestive issues
Loss of motivation or task aversion
Feeling overwhelmed
Neglecting your health, including nutrition, movement, hygiene or sleep
Avoiding people or activities you used to enjoy
Lack of energy
Feeling detached or numb

Many of the symptoms of burnout may feel like or be mistaken for depression. We are here to help support you as you navigate prioritizing your wellness and restoration.

Welcome back to school! With that can come excitement, anticipation and anxiety.

Social media and self reports have contributed to an increasing prevalence of reported anxiety and depression among teens, along with the CDC reporting an increase over the years in this age group. They have reported this is due to more social media exposure, increased academic and social pressures and constant exposure to global crises.

We can better support teens by:

- Helping provide structure and balance in their routines with sleep, nutrition, screen time limits and space for providing listening and safe support.
- Teaching them coping skills, and stress relief tools to understand and name their emotions so they can address their emotions safely and prevent burnout.
- Provide support for boundaries in friendships and relationships to know what is safe, how to say no, and how to handle peer pressure confidently.
- Recognize their struggles and know how to access support.

We are here for you.

Creativity is accessible to all. You don't need to be an artist to access the healing benefits of art.

1. Unlike other abilities and skills, artistic abilities live in and stimulate the brain’s right and left hemispheres.

2. Releases dopamine and reduce cortisol

3. Helps process emotions

4. Provides space to build confidence and identity

5. Encourages mindfulness and flow

Mindfulness isn’t just about noticing your surroundings. Interoception, or awareness of internal body signals like heart rate, tension, and hunger, is a key part of emotional regulation.

Try a quick body scan today: pause and ask what your body is telling you before reacting. Is your jaw tense? Are your shoulders raised? Are you breathing shallow? Does your stomach feel tight?

International Self-Care Day! July 24th celebrates international championing of self-care as not only a proactive but preventative way to manage stress, mental health and leading health issues that can be mitigated or reduced by simple lifestyle changes. It is a global effort to promote wellness as a way to effect social change, impact communities and ease burden on our health care systems.

Self-care can be any simple, intentional, and consistent action you take to promote and maintain your physical, intellectual, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It is a holistic, empowering practice that includes anything from managing sleep and nutrition to setting healthy boundaries or actively coping with stress through grounding, meditation or exercise.

What is your self-care ritual?
