What a whirlwind our first 6 weeks have been! 🤩 We have so many people we have to thank for getting us up and running, but first we have some pretty amazing accomplishments we wish to share!
The Mercantile is more than just a store - we are on a mission to make a real and lasting impact on the special needs community and help build a new vision for what inclusive workplaces can be.
Currently, we are employing 9 staff members within the special needs community. Each of these individuals is on their own professional journey and are actively training every time they work at The Mercantile.
Volunteers donated 120 hours of their time to assist in our programming, store operations, and helping get The Mercantile in tip top shape!
We participated in two pop-ups with the Farmington Farmers Market, which gave us the opportunity to expand our reach and engage with our fellow retail community!
We planned, marketed and have almost fully sold out our first community class — a make and take macrame workshop— happening next Saturday at The Mercantile. 🥳
We currently stock 48 talented local Michigan artists - including 19 artists with special needs! This collective of unique makers and artisans is what sets us apart - you never know what you’re going to find when you step inside The Mercantile.
We have had over 400 sales these first 6 weeks, and over $20,000 in donations - from direct monetary donations to our employment training program, to physical donations of furniture, technology, and retail necessities, like our security system.
We couldn’t have accomplished all this without YOU- our amazingly supportive community, and to this wonderful city of Farmington, who has welcomed us with open arms! We look forward to becoming your favorite spot to find local art, handmade gifts, and unique finds!
When you shop at The Mercantile, your purchase actually has purpose. Thank you for supporting our mission to empower individuals with special needs!
