âšMember Spotlight: Meet Phil (aka Philly)âš
đ From Athlete to CrossFitter
Phil grew up playing just about every sport imaginableâbasketball, baseball, track, and cross country. But despite loving competition, fitness wasnât always a priority. Like many kids growing up in the â80s, he fueled himself with Jolt Cola, Lunchables, and plenty of Chef Boyardee.
Today, heâs a proud dad of three boys, works remotely in higher education, and spends his free time coaching his kidsâ teams, mountain biking, enjoying the lake, or convincing himself that running long distances is still a good idea.
đȘ Why CrossFit?
Phil started CrossFit in 2019 after noticing the âdad bodâ slowly creeping in. Between raising three young boys, poor eating habits, little sleep, and long hours at a desk, he knew something needed to change.
A neighbor convinced him to try CrossFit, and he was hooked almost immediately. He fell in love with the challenge, the constant opportunity to improve, and the mental toughness that comes from choosing to do hard things.
đïž Favorite Movement?
The Sn**ch.
Ironically, it started as his least favorite movement because he struggled with it. Instead of avoiding it, he attacked the weakness until it became his favorite lift.
âI love that itâs one of the most technical movements in CrossFit. It exposes every flaw in mobility, positioning, timing, and strength, which means thereâs always something to improve. And letâs be honest⊠when you hit a good sn**ch, taking a barbell from the floor to overhead in one smooth movement just looks awesome.â
â€ïž Why He Keeps Showing Up
His biggest motivation is simple: his three boys.
Phil wants to be the dad who can coach their teams, keep up on adventures, wrestle in the yard, and someday be the grandpa whoâs still throwing the football instead of watching from a lawn chair.
CrossFit isnât just about fitnessâitâs about building a healthier future for the people who matter most.
đ Fun Fact
This might be the hottest take weâve ever featuredâŠ
