Nobody chooses their genes.

But researchers went looking for the parts of dementia risk we can change — and found fourteen. Together they account for about 45% of cases worldwide.

One starts in childhood. Ten sit in midlife: hearing, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, mood, movement. Three arrive later: isolation, air quality, eyesight.

You don't need all fourteen. Four of them start with something you could do this week.

No single change is a cure. Stacked together, they move the odds.

Which one are you starting with? 👇

Dr. Patel's daughter made the Top 10 in the national 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
🧪 42 days. 66 jars. 3,500+ measurements. Some nights until 1 a.m. Plenty of failures. She kept going.
Her project: a low-cost system to fight ocean acidification, built and tested entirely by her.

🚨 Your gut is talking... are you listening? 🚨

As a specialist in pain management and regenerative medicine, I spend a lot of time speaking with patients about inflammation. But did you know that chronic inflammation often starts right in your GUT? 🦠✨

Take a look at this breakdown of how our daily nutrition directly impacts our microbiome and our overall health:

❌ The Inflammatory Path: A diet high in excessive sugar and saturated fats feeds the wrong bacteria. This can lead to gut inflammation, insulin resistance, and a higher risk of infections and cardiovascular disease.

✅ The Healing Path: A diet rich in dietary fiber and probiotics fuels your gut to produce Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs). This is the "magic" that actively reduces inflammation, boosts your antioxidant levels, and improves your metabolism! 🛡️

The Takeaway: Food is medicine. Supporting your gut microbiota isn't just about digestion; it's a powerful, science-driven step toward managing chronic pain, reducing systemic inflammation, and protecting your long-term health.

Drop a 🥦 in the comments if you're working on adding more fiber to your diet this week! What’s your go-to gut-healthy meal? 👇

In February, I traded my scrubs for a suit. 🏛️ At the American Academy of Neurology’s in Washington, D.C., I joined colleagues from across the country to advocate for the Safe Step Act. Too often, "step therapy" means insurance forces you to try and fail older, less effective treatments before approving the care you actually need. When it comes to chronic pain and brain health, these delays are unacceptable. I'm fighting on Capitol Hill to remove these barriers so you can get the right treatment, right away.
