DUE TO THE LOCAL MEASLES OUTBREAK....PLEASE READ AND SHARE ON YOUR PAGE AND ASK OTHERS TO SHARE!

During a measles outbreak, every parent deserves clear information..........not fear, shame, or panic.

If you are choosing NOT to vaccinate your child, it is important to understand what supportive care, monitoring, and prevention strategies may help reduce complications and when medical care is urgently needed.

⚠️ Measles is highly contagious and can become serious quickly in babies, young children, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals.

Things parents should know during an outbreak:

πŸ›‘ KNOW EARLY SIGNS OF MEASLES
Symptoms usually begin 7–14 days after exposure and may include:
β€’ High fever
β€’ Cough
β€’ Runny nose
β€’ Red/watery eyes
β€’ White spots inside the mouth
β€’ Rash beginning on face/hairline then spreading downward

🚨 SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL CARE IF:

β€’ Difficulty breathing
β€’ Lethargy or confusion
β€’ Persistent vomiting
β€’ Signs of dehydration
β€’ Seizures
β€’ Blue lips
β€’ Fever in infants
β€’ Child is worsening instead of improving

🏑 SUPPORTIVE CARE MATTERS
β€’ Hydration is critical
β€’ Rest
β€’ Fever monitoring
β€’ Electrolytes if needed
β€’ Nutrient-dense foods when tolerated
β€’ Avoid exposing vulnerable individuals

πŸ₯• VITAMIN A & MEASLES
The CDC and AAP note that Vitamin A may be used UNDER MEDICAL SUPERVISION in children with confirmed measles because deficiency can worsen complications. It is NOT considered prevention and should NOT be self-dosed at high levels because toxicity can and DOES occur.

Common age-based treatment doses used clinically for CONFIRMED measles under provider supervision include:

β€’ Under 6 months: 50,000 IU x 2 days
β€’ 6–11 months: 100,000 IU x 2 days
β€’ 12 months and older: 200,000 IU x 2 days

⚠️ These are treatment doses β€” NOT daily wellness doses. DO NOT CONTINUE unless under the direction of your provider.

🍊 SAFE DAILY NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT

Focus on foods naturally rich in beta-carotene and immune-supportive nutrients:
β€’ Sweet potatoes
β€’ Carrots
β€’ Squash
β€’ Eggs
β€’ Leafy greens
β€’ Bone broth
β€’ Adequate protein
β€’ Vitamin D optimization through your healthcare provider

🧼 REDUCE SPREAD

β€’ Keep sick children home...this is critical
β€’ Avoid public gatherings if exposed
β€’ Isolate confirmed cases
β€’ Notify your pediatrician before arriving to an office

Parents should be able to ask questions, understand risks, and make informed decisions without division. The goal should always be protecting children and reducing severe complications through honest, evidence-based care. We are here to support you!

Heavenly Father,

As this winter storm moves through our communities, we come to You asking for Your mercy and protection. Please watch over the linemen, health care workers, VDOT workers and first responders who work tirelessly in the cold and danger.
Give them strength and endurance, and return them safely to their families.
Be especially close to those who are struggling through this storm without heat, shelter, or security.
Provide warmth, safety, and hope, and guide caring hands to reach them in their time of need.
We thank You for the blessings we so often take for granted, especially the warmth of home,
and we ask for grateful hearts and a willingness to care for one another.
May we face this storm united, with compassion, faith, and trust in You.

Amen.
