Juneteenth is and always will be a day of celebration and joy but we must remember and embrace it’s history. On this day in 1865, Major General Ranger rode into Galveston, Texas with Union to proclaim that all slaves were now free men, and while pockets of slavery persisted for time to come, this Jubilee day is commonly celebrated as the end of the practice.
