🔬 MONDAY RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT | NUTRIPLEDGE

🥤 Could Your Daily Sugary Drink Increase Your Risk of Stomach Cancer?

A recent study published in Gastro Hep Advances involving more than 112,000 adults found that consuming more than one sugar-sweetened beverage daily was associated with approximately 2.45 times the risk of gastric (stomach) cancer, compared with rarely consuming these beverages.

🔍 What Did Researchers Find?

🥤 Higher consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages was linked to increased gastric cancer risk.

👥 The association was observed in both men and women.

🧪 Artificially sweetened beverages were not associated with increased gastric cancer risk in this study.

⚠️ Important: This was an observational study, meaning the findings show an association—not proof that sugary drinks cause stomach cancer.

💚 A Nutripledge Thought

What we drink matters just as much as what we eat!

Small, intentional changes can make a difference. Choose water, unsweetened tea, or sparkling water without added sugars more often, and make sugary drinks an occasional choice.

🌿 Food is medicine—eat with intention, responsibility, and confidence to support your health and well-being!

☕ FRIDAY FOOD TALK | Starbucks Sugar-Free Protein Latte Revisited!
Is “Sugar-Free” Really Sugar-Free? 🤔

Last year, Nutripledge reviewed Starbucks' Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte as part of our Food Coach program. Now, the beverage is back in the spotlight following a proposed class-action lawsuit questioning its “sugar-free” labeling.
🔍 Here's something worth knowing!
A Grande Starbucks Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte contains approximately:
🥛 9 g total sugar
🍬 0 g added sugar
💪 29 g protein
So, what's the difference between “sugar-free,” “no added sugar,” and “total sugar”? And do we really need 29 grams of protein in our coffee?
In this week's Friday Food Talk, we revisit our original review, explore the nutrition facts, explain the labeling controversy, and share practical tips for making informed beverage choices.
💚 The goal isn't to fear food. It's to understand it!

❤️ Monday Research Spotlight
Stroke is often thought of as a health concern for later in life—but new research gives us another reason to pay attention much earlier.

A recent study published in Neurology found that stroke rates among adults ages 20–54 nearly doubled over the past three decades.

At NutriPledge, we believe heart health begins with the choices we make every day. 🥗❤️ Healthy eating, regular movement, stress management, and preventive care can all play a role in supporting lifelong cardiovascular health.

New research suggests the gut microbiome may play an important role in Parkinson’s disease, with changes possibly beginning in the earliest stages and linking to disease progression. Diets high in processed foods and saturated fats were associated with less healthy gut bacteria, while fruits, vegetables, fiber, fish, and lentils may be protective. Growing evidence shows that healthy lifestyle choices—including nutrition and physical activity—could help manage symptoms and support brain health.
