Bad breath isn't always related to oral hygiene.
It can sometimes be associated with ENT conditions like chronic sinus infections, postnasal drip, nasal congestion, or tonsil issues. Getting to the bottom of the underlying cause is an important step toward finding lasting relief.
If you're experiencing bad breath that won't go away despite good dental care, an ENT evaluation may help get to the bottom of the problem.

What inspired you to pursue a career in ENT?

My journey into ENT is personal. As a child, I had significant hearing loss that wasn’t diagnosed until elementary school. After undergoing surgery, I still remember hearing the ticking of my grandfather’s Mickey Mouse watch for the very first time. That experience changed my life and inspired me to pursue a career where I could help restore something as fundamental as hearing, breathing, speaking, and quality of life. I chose ENT because it allows me to combine complex problem-solving, surgery, and meaningful relationships with patients of all ages.

What do you enjoy most about caring for patients?

The most rewarding part of my job is helping patients truly understand what’s going on and partnering with them to find the best solution. Whether someone is struggling to breathe through their nose, dealing with chronic sinus problems, hearing loss, or a head and neck condition, I enjoy building trust and seeing the improvement in their quality of life. I want every patient to leave feeling heard, informed, and confident in their care.

What’s one piece of advice you always give your patients?

Never ignore symptoms that are affecting your quality of life. Many people assume chronic congestion, poor sleep, hearing loss, or frequent throat problems are just something they have to live with—but they often aren’t. Early evaluation can make a significant difference, and there are more treatment options available today than many people realize.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

Outside of medicine, you’ll usually find me exploring Georgia with my camera. Wildlife photography has become one of my favorite hobbies because it reminds me to slow down and appreciate nature. I also enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, volunteering in the community, and discovering new local coffee shops.

Do you have any fun facts about yourself that patients might be surprised to learn?

People are often surprised to learn that I’m usually the one behind the camera. Wildlife photography is one of my favorite hobbies, and I enjoy spending early mornings hiking with my camera in search of birds and other wildlife. It’s a great reminder to slow down, be patient, and appreciate the world around us.

Dr. Smith is accepting new patients at all three of our locations. https://entgasouth.com/physicians/connor-smith
