Kendra Conquers

Kendra Conquers I pride myself in being a safe space and am becoming a somatic practitioner after nearly losing my life to environmental toxins in 2024.

This is a judgement-free zone where there’s no room for blame or shame. I’m excited to share what I learn with you! 🥰

It feels good to have left survival mode and found transformational healing. ❤️‍🩹

This candid shot of me attempting to capture photos of hummingbirds is a perfect example of the healing I have found. 😊

It’s the kind of healing I am excited to facilitate in my community and beyond. 🤗

If it’s the kind of healing you or someone you know is looking for, now is the time to follow Kendra Conquers. 👍

Healing from the bottom up takes time, but it doesn’t have to wait. 🕰️

The full quote:

“People who have worked through traumatic reactions frequently tell me that there is both an animalistic and a spiritual dimension to their lives afterwards. They are more spontaneous and less inhibited in the expression of healthy assertion and joy. They more readily identify themselves with the experience of being an animal. At the same time they perceive themselves as having become more human. When trauma is transformed, one of the gifts of healing is a childlike awe and reverence for life.”

📱 I had a great phone conversation today with a mentor of mine. She told me how a challenge she is facing today, in her mid-60’s, brings the same terror in her body as it did when she was 18-years-old.

😰 This is somatics, friends.

💊 How many times have we been told to take a chill pill or that we are overreacting and to just calm down? (Spoiler alert: This is counterproductive)

🧠 That’s very human of us…using our intellectual brain to stuff away the instincts of the survival brain and explain it all away.

💩This is a fundamentally flawed aspect of our culture.

💡 Trauma is not what happened to you, it’s the energy that gets stuck in your body if not discharged appropriately.

📣 I’ll be starting a Somatic Experiencing cohort in the fall. If you’d like an invitation to join that group, please reach out!

I went back to school. 🏫 📖 🖥️

“Today Kendra” is showing up for “9-yo Kendra” and all the people “9-yo Kendra” felt called to help.

Little did I know nearly four decades ago exactly how huge that would turn out to be.

I plan to begin sharing what I learn on my Kendra Conquers socials and will be opening my schedule in the fall by invitation, but today’s reading hit me particularly hard and I didn’t want to wait to share it.

I feel it deeply because I experienced it personally and if find it so important to share because I think of so many of my friends and their children as I read it.

“The fact that hospitalizations and medical procedures routinely produced traumatic results comes as a surprise to many. The traumatic after effects from prolonged mobilization, hospitalizations, and especially surgeries are often long-lasting and severe. Even though a person may recognize that an operation is necessary, and despite the fact that they are unconscious as the surgeon cuts through the flesh, muscle, and bone, it still registers in the body is a life-threatening event. On the “cellular level” the body perceives that it has sustained a wound serious enough to place it in immortal danger. Intellectually, we may believe in an operation, but on a primal level, our bodies do not. Where trauma is concerned, the perception of the instinctual nervous system carries more weight - much more. This biological fact is a primary reason why surgery will often produce a post-traumatic reaction.”

I’ve said it for 2.5 years now. . .

I woke up in a different body after having my gall bladder removed on Nov. 29, 2023. My body didn’t feel the same and my mind didn’t work the same. My nervous system was completely highjacked while I was under anesthesia and the surgery that was supposed to cure me… made me more worse.

For so long, I felt so alone. Who could possibly understand this level of trauma from something so….routine?

I do.

I created an album about it. In fact, my “internment selfie” is one of my most-loved posts ever. I wrote it the day I wrote my eulogy. No one knew that.

You are not alone.

If your body says it’s not normal, it’s not.

And to my medical momma’s…. I have more for you, but this was a lot on its own.

Reality is harsh.
I know yall don’t like seeing it.
I’ve promised authenticity here and this is it because I can’t stand feeling like an imposter.

I know what’s happening with my body. I know why my pain is 9/10.

I know that if I go to the ER, they will probably catch it on CT. I know that they will send me for a surgery consult if they do.

I also know this condition is transient - by the time I get through the process it will have resolved itself.

💡 Transient. Perhaps it should be considered as a title for my book.

Today, I do what I can to cope at home, as silently as possible. My princesses are still sleeping.

I share mostly for those of you reading this who feel alone…who want the alcohol or the opioids or the end.

And also for those of you struggling with your judgement of people like me. We truly are doing the best we know how.

This morning I find solace in a bathtub and somatic practices.

It is transient. It can get better.
