Grief does not follow a timeline and it does not belong only to those who have lost someone.

On National Grief Awareness Day, we recognize the many faces of grief.

It can be felt by a patient mourning the life they once knew. By a family adjusting to changing roles, difficult decisions and the thought of saying goodbye. By a caregiver carrying love, responsibility and exhaustion all at once. And by hospice professionals who form meaningful bonds, hold space during deeply personal moments and quietly grieve alongside the families they serve.

Grief can also come with the loss of health, independence, identity, a relationship, a dream or the future we once imagined. Though every experience is personal, grief itself is universal. At some point, we all learn what it means to miss someone—or something—that mattered deeply.

If you are grieving:

• Give yourself permission to feel what you feel without judging it.
• Let trusted people know what you need, even if it is simply their presence.
• Care for your body through rest, nourishment and gentle movement.
• Create a ritual, write down a memory or find another meaningful way to honor what was lost.
• Seek additional support when the weight feels too heavy to carry alone.

There is no “right” way to grieve and no deadline for healing. Some days may hold tears; others may hold laughter, gratitude or even relief. All of those feelings can belong in the same story.

At Alternative Hospice, we understand that compassionate care includes more than managing physical symptoms. It means honoring the whole person, supporting the people who love them and making room for the emotions that accompany life’s most tender transitions.

Today, and every day, we remember that grief deserves patience, support and human connection. You do not have to carry it alone.

Enjoyed today’s community BINGO at Pine Valley Assisted Living in Arnold. Got to visit with the group of 55+ and speak about our home health, palliative care & hospice services. Always best to hear about health resources before they are needed. I find joy in helping people. If you have any questions re: these services or just interested about when the next community bingo is, feel free to DM me + we can chat or set up a time for a call or meeting.
