The autumn schedule for classes taught here at Hawthorn & Violet has been released! If you’ve never been to one before- we have a room at the back of the building we can use on the weekends for our classes.
Classes are generally about 2 hours, give or take depending on the class, and have more than just surface level information. You’ll get more deep nuances.
Since our space is limited, class size is limited as well. For most classes that don’t require a table to be set up, the most we can fit is 18. Some that do require 1 or more table are limited to 10-14. So classes do sell out!
To register, follow the link to the class purchase page, and add whichever classes you would like to your cart. Most classes are $25. A couple are $35, and a couple that have you making and bringing something home are $45-$70.
Because classes do sometimes fill up, we take a wait list in case of cancellation.
If you can’t make it to a class you signed up for, we’re happy to offer a class credit for a future class if you give us at least 48 hours notice so we can offer your spot to someone else.
Most people like to take notes during class, so if that’s your thing be sure to bring a notebook and pen. (We also have a selection of lovely journals you can use for classes!)
Though the shop may be closed to the public during classes that are after hours, students are always welcome to make purchases after class.

Probiotic pickles! Did you know that you can get your probiotics from food?
These pickles aren’t your typical vinegar pickles- these are made how pickles were traditionally made. The cucumbers and spices are soaked in a saltwater brine- too salty for most unfriendly bacteria- but lactobacillus, one of our friendly gut inhabitants, love it! All the other bacteria do not survive. But lactobacillus thrive in this environment. They ferment the cucumber, not making alcohol, but rather making lactic acid. Lactic acid is very sour (like vinegar), so the result is a salty, sour pickle that is rich in friendly bacteria.
These are delicious sliced up on a salad, sandwich, in your potato or tuna salad, or even crunched on their own.
Unlike pickles that have been soaked in vinegar, these are a living food, so look for them in the refrigerator at our shop.

Check out our fall herb class schedule!

Folks have been asking for it, and it's finally ready! Here is our fall class schedule- we have all kinds of interesting classes- herbs, gut health, aromatherapy, incense rolling, einkorn sourdough making and lots more.

If you haven't been to one of our classes before- it's easy to sign up through the link below, or from our website or Facebook events. Be sure to sign up in advance, as space as limited.

Classes this fall are Friday nights and Saturday mornings and take place in a room at the back of the shop.

Class descriptions will be going up on our website and on Facebook as events over the coming few days. There are a couple items you'll need to bring with you if you sign up for the Einkorn Sourdough class, so be sure to check the class description for those. For other classes, you might want to bring a notebook for taking notes.
