“A bad day for your ego is a great day for your soul”.
I struggled over my lifetime with having an inflated ego (born of great insecurities). And this lead to problems in my relationships, failing to parent the way I want to parent, nearly losing friendships and ultimately hurting those I cared most about.
Learning to overcome my ego has also changed my life. My marriage is stronger, my parenting is better, my team is stronger.
I have a long way to go, but I understand it’s going to be uncomfortable if I want to get there. That discomfort is something you learn to seek out - because if you can’t find the blind spots, you can’t make improvements.
My advice if you struggle with similar things:
1. read “Ego Is The Enemy” by Ryan Holiday
2. Ask yourself: “if everyone did this too, would it be ok?”
3. Don’t water the wrong trees... That means don’t give more of your energy to thinking and analyzing things you already know are not what you should do.
Instead water the trees of: love for others, compassion to the people you lead (including your kids), and personal excellence.
Do the work.
