Next up for the Spotlight Amanda Casey: Hi everyone, my name is Amanda Casey, and I am the owner of Aspire Speech Therapy at Sierra Therapy Group Suites.
I was out of town when lockdown orders started going into effect. It was then that I realized that things were changing, and they were changing quickly. Teletherapy was never something I wanted to do as I love the face-to-face interactions with clients and the oh so special hugs I receive from them. My first thought was to wait it out, but I always teach my clients to be flexible when situations change, and how could I tell them that if I didn’t at least try? I am so glad that I did. I have been so surprised to discover how much I love doing sessions through teletherapy. I still get magical aha therapy moments with my clients, and while I miss the hugs, I understand why I must wait for now.
I am profoundly thankful for the dedication of my clients and their parents. The hurdles that have been placed in front of them have been met with determination and resilience. They are constantly teaching me to find the humor in the situation. Please never stop showing me your pets and having crazy outer space backgrounds!
Our next hurdle is to figure out how to safely restart in-person sessions. I am not too worried, though. I know that my families and I can handle anything that comes our way!
