The first three steps to getting help can be the hardest.

1. You don’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes it starts with simply acknowledging, “I don’t want to keep living like this.”

2. A friend. A family member. A healthcare provider. A recovery professional. You don’t have to carry it alone, and asking for help can begin with one conversation.

3. Make the call. Attend the meeting. Schedule the assessment. Ask about your options.

You don’t have to figure out the entire road ahead today. You just have to take the next step.

This Recovery Month, remember: asking for help is a step forward. And when you’re ready to take that step, there are people ready to meet you there. 💜

RECIPE FOR A HEARTY RECOVERY

Ingredients:

1 generous serving of a strong support network
2 cups of rest and quality sleep
A hearty scoop of emotional wellness
A handful of physical activity and nourishment
1 cup of mental and intellectual stimulation
A pinch of spiritual purpose and connection
A healthy serving of meaningful relationships and community
A dash of financial stability and practical support
Plenty of self-compassion and patience
A few spoonfuls of healthy boundaries and coping skills
Daily doses of joy, laughter, and things that bring you meaning
And as much hope, resilience, and encouragement as needed ❤️

Directions: Mix together daily, adjust portions as needed, and remember—recovery isn't a one-ingredient recipe. It takes the whole person, the whole community, and time. 🌱

Shaun-Ann is starting as Service Coordinator at StepOne at Mercy Joplin, where she links and connects individuals, families, and partner organizations to StepOne's acute withdrawal management services.

She focuses on building awareness of what StepOne offers and helping people navigate to the care they need through the service.

She holds a Bachelor's in Psychology and a Master's in Business Administration, and brings nine years of case management experience to her role. She believes the best care starts with listening — understanding what someone is actually facing before building a practical pathway to the resources they need.

A systems-minded creative with a pattern-recognizer's instinct, Shaun-Ann brings a grounded, people-first approach to every coordination challenge. She is passionate about building sustainable programs that connect people with services, especially in communities facing urgent needs. She thrives in collaborative settings where every voice is heard and is known for staying calm, assertive, and empathetic under pressure. That same instinct to speak up and connect runs through everything she does — advocating for people of all ages, bees, the planet, and her community.

Outside of StepOne, Shaun-Ann advocates for people as a licensed Realtor, advocates for her bees and flowers through Bees & Bloom — a small beekeeping and flower-farming venture built on sustainable, pesticide-free practices — and shows up for her community as a foster parent, building a multigenerational home rooted in service and local involvement.
