Congratulations to Wesleyan University of Haiti School of Nursing!

The school welcomed its newest group of students during their orientation celebration today. The day also marked the 12th anniversary of the School of Nursing.

We are so grateful for these students who have chosen to pursue nursing, and for the faculty and staff who are preparing the next generation of Haitian nurses.

Humble beginnings. A growing partnership.

Over the past year, a partnership has been developing between the Wesleyan Church in Mizoram, India, Parkway Church in Roanoke, Virginia, and GPHN. One of the first tangible fruits of that relationship is a new medical clinic beginning to take shape in Mizoram.

For now, the clinic is starting simply. A local physician who is part of the Wesleyan Church is volunteering two afternoons each week to provide care. At the same time, land has already been purchased in Champhai with the hope of eventually building a permanent clinic.

The goal is to provide affordable, compassionate healthcare for local families and for the many refugees from neighboring Myanmar who are living in Mizoram and often struggle to afford medical care.

We’re grateful for the relationships that are growing and for the opportunity to walk alongside the church in Mizoram as they serve their community!

It’s exciting to see the partnership between All Shores Wesleyan Church and Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital continue to grow!

Recently, a group of people from All Shores and others connected to the Kamakwie partnership gathered for dinner to reconnect, share updates, and look ahead to what’s next.

Over the past several years, teams from All Shores have traveled to Sierra Leone to work alongside hospital staff, including helping lead a medical conference for healthcare providers. The church is also planning to make a significant investment toward the new guest house planned for the hospital.

We’re grateful to see the circle of people connected to this partnership continue to grow and excited for the many ways they will help strengthen and support Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital in the years ahead.

Today we celebrate the grand opening of African Wesleyan University College in Zimba, Zambia!

This is an exciting milestone for education in Zambia and especially for the future of nursing and healthcare. As nursing education continues to grow through Zimba College of Nursing and Midwifery and now African Wesleyan University College, more students will have opportunities to prepare for careers serving patients, families, and communities across Zambia.

Global Partners Health Network is grateful to celebrate with our partners in Zambia and looks forward to seeing how this next chapter strengthens nursing education and healthcare for years to come.

What an incredible RUN RUN 5K yesterday!

This year’s event truly stretched around the world, with participants on three continents and from coast to coast across the United States.

We are so grateful for everyone who participated, whether running, walking, giving, sharing, or cheering others on. Most importantly, every mile helps support the Wesleyan University of Haiti School of Nursing and the work of preparing the next generation of Haitian nurses.

So far, nearly $4,000 has been raised this year through RUN RUN, and there is still time to help us build on that total. The race website will remain open for additional donations.

Beyond the classroom in Haiti, nursing students are gaining hands-on experience.

Fourteen fourth-year students are currently completing their final clinical internship before graduation. They are spending two months in Petit-Goâve gaining experience in areas including surgical, the operating room, and emergency care, followed by a final month in the maternity ward in Léogâne.

At the same time, third-year students are completing a one-month maternity internship in Léogâne and will return to La Gonâve this week.

There’s a great way you can support students and Raise Up Nurses: the R.U.N. RUN 5K is just TWO DAYS away!

Whether you run, walk, or participate from wherever you are, your support helps strengthen nursing education in Haiti.

What a great weekend of connection, conversation, and shared commitment!

Volunteers from the La Gonave Wesleyan Hospital and Wesleyan University of Haiti School of Nursing Action Teams recently gathered at Shunem Ministries - Shunem House in Noblesville, Indiana, for a GPHN Haiti Retreat.

The weekend gave the two teams time to strengthen relationships, learn from one another, and talk about how we can work together even more effectively to support the hospital and School of Nursing as they serve the people of La Gonave.

We had a chance to connect on Zoom with leadership and staff of the hospital and school. We also enjoyed hosting an evening dessert gathering with people from the area who are already connected to these medical ministries, or simply interested in learning more.

We’re grateful for everyone who gave their time, ideas, experience, and encouragement throughout the weekend. Strong relationships and collaboration are an important part of building stronger healthcare for the people of La Gonave.

This is the power of a network!

An ultrasound for Zimba Mission Hospital and laptops for Zimba College of Nursing and Midwifery have made their way to Zambia!

It took a network to get them there—from those who donated, to GPHN members who picked up and transported the equipment, to an Indiana Wesleyan University Nursing team that carried it to Zambia.

We appreciate Mr. Sanford Khondowe, Director of the Wesleyan Medical Ministries of Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Zambia, for delivering these gifts to the staff of Zimba Mission Hospital and leadership of the College of Nursing and Midwifery.

So many hands. One shared mission. What a great picture of GPHN at work!

We are deeply encouraged by a recent real-life example of the kind of training students are receiving at the Wesleyan University of Haiti School of Nursing. On a recent Sunday afternoon at a beach on La Gonave, a 6-year-old boy was pulled from the water unconscious after nearly drowning. Thimotée Joseph, a nursing student, responded immediately, using his training to assess the child and begin clearing water from his lungs. Within minutes, the boy began breathing again and was taken to La Gonave Wesleyan Hospital, accompanied by Thimotée, where he was cared for and later sent home with his family.

Because of a rapid and skilled response, a young life was saved. This is the kind of impact the School of Nursing is having on La Gonave, equipping students with the skill and compassion to act when it matters most.
