Day 16 of 30, Nervous System Reset. ⚡️

Prayer.

This is for you whether you’re a Christian, whether you believe in God, or whether you still have a lot of questions.

One of the best things you can do for a nervous system reset is pray. Even better if you can pray out loud, barefoot in the grass, connecting with the Creator and creation at the same time.

There’s actual research behind this, not just belief. A study published in the British Medical Journal found that reciting a repetitive prayer slows your breathing down to almost exactly six breaths a minute, and it measurably improved heart rate variability. Prayer and meditation more broadly are well documented to lower heart rate, blood pressure, and stress hormones like cortisol. Duke University research has even linked regular prayer to lower markers of chronic inflammation in the body.

So here’s a short prayer you can actually use.

“God, come to me in dreams and visions. Bring me more calmness. More stillness. More peace. Take this stress off my shoulders. Take this pain out of my body. Quiet this anxiety in my mind. Help me find clarity in the chaos. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Day 15 of 30, Nervous System Reset. ⚡️

Shoot the Bunny (Brain Gym Exercise)

Day fifteen of the nervous system reset, and today I’m actually doing a Brain Gym exercise, shoot the bunny, finger gun into bunny ears.

This actually counts as a real nervous system reset, not just a fun crossover. First, this requires your full attention on one small, specific task for about thirty seconds. That kind of focused attention is the same mechanism behind grounding techniques like the orienting response from earlier this month, it pulls your brain out of scanning for threats, because it genuinely can’t do both at once. Second, you’re using both hands doing something coordinated together, which is the same category as bilateral stimulation, the same principle behind the butterfly hug from Day 6. This kind of finger dexterity work also builds new neural pathways over time, a genuinely different benefit, better cognitive resilience as you age, not something every technique in this series can claim.

Day 14 of 30, Nervous System Reset Challenge. ⚡️

Neck and Shoulder Release.

If your neck and shoulders are locked up by 3pm every day, this is for you. Slow neck rolls, shoulders down and back, thirty seconds.

This matters because when your shoulders are shooting up toward your ears, it’s actually a hardwired startle reflex, protecting your neck and head from a threat. The problem is that reflex often never fully completes. Your nervous system stays slightly activated, so your shoulders stay slightly raised, muscles slightly locked, on guard for something that already passed. Your vagus nerve, the same nerve behind most of this series, runs right through that exact area, so chronic tension there can actually affect how well it functions. And the tension itself becomes part of the problem. Your body reads the tightness as a signal that you’re still not safe, which keeps the whole cycle going.

My life, discipline and faith journey changed forever when I stopped just going through the motions and started reading God’s Word with a genuinely humble heart instead of out of obligation or fear.

This message might not be for every man watching this right now, but I know it’s for somebody. If you’re lost right now, brother, if you’re trying to find direction, if you’re trying to find discipline, you need to sit with Jesus, sit with the Word, and you need to prioritize lifting weights, walking ten thousand steps a day, and getting physically fit.

I’m telling you right now, do those two things, faith and fitness, and you will be amazed by the confidence, the energy, the life, the vitality you start expressing in this world.

Let’s go!

Day 13 of 30, Nervous System Reset Challenge. ⚡️

Cold Shower Finish.

I want to be clear on what this actually is, since it’s easy to confuse with cold water on your face from earlier this month. This isn’t about splashing your face. This is about turning your whole shower cold for the last thirty seconds and letting it hit your body, specifically your neck and upper back if you can angle it that way, not just wherever it happens to land.

Your neck and upper back are where your body concentrates something called brown fat, tissue specifically built to respond to sudden cold.

When cold water hits you, your first instinct is to gasp, tense up, maybe even panic a little. That’s automatic, everybody does it. But if you catch yourself in that exact moment and breathe slow and steady instead of letting your body just react, you’re practicing something specific: staying calm on purpose while something stressful is actively happening, not after it’s already over.

Day 12 of 30, Nervous System Reset Challenge. ⚡️

Alternate Nostril Breathing.

If you are stressed or your mind is racing before a hard conversation or before bed, try this. Close one nostril, inhale, switch sides, exhale. Repeat for a minute.

Here’s what’s actually happening. Your nose runs on something called a nasal cycle. One side is naturally more open than the other at any given moment, and it switches back and forth every couple hours all day without you noticing. Your right nostril tends to run alongside more sympathetic, fight or flight activity, and your left tends to run alongside more parasympathetic, calming activity. Alternate nostril breathing basically forces you through that entire cycle in about a minute instead of waiting hours for it to happen on its own. A review of over forty clinical trials found real, measurable improvements to the autonomic nervous system from doing this.

Day 11 of 30, Nervous System Reset Challenge. ⚡️

Ear Massage.

If you need a reset nobody around you will even notice, try this one. Feel for the small flap of cartilage right in front of your ear canal, that’s your tragus. Now move just slightly up and back from there, into the small notch at the top of the bowl of your ear, right where it meets your ear canal. That spot is called the cymba co**ha, and out of every part of your outer ear, it’s the one place that’s almost entirely fed by your vagus nerve. Massage it gently for thirty seconds. A real pressure point you can use anywhere, anytime, and nobody watching would know what you’re actually doing.

Next week marks 7 years since I decided to stop drinking alcohol.

Reflecting on that today, and it’s wild to think about how different my life could look right now if I never made that choice.

I’m nowhere near perfect, but I’m grateful to keep chasing what it means to be a better husband, a better father, a better human, and especially a better man of God.

Thanks for being here.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but sometimes being silly is the best thing for your nervous system

Day 10 of 30, Nervous System Reset Challenge. ⚡️

Singing Loudly.

I’m doing this one in the car, which honestly might be the most natural place for it. Same nerve as humming from earlier this month, different delivery. Sing one verse of anything, full volume, like nobody’s listening. Your vagus nerve runs right past your vocal cords, so using it fully is a real, physical reset, not just a mood boost.

, in partnership with Amerisleep

You’re spending hundreds “optimizing” your sleep, the rings, the trackers, the cooling pads, the magnesium, and ignoring the main thing you actually sleep on. That’s backwards.

This whole “sleepmaxxing” trend has people biohacking everything except the surface under their body. No tracker has ever fixed a night of sleep. It just tells you how bad it was. No gummy overrides a mattress that’s overheating you and knocking you out of deep sleep at 3am.

You’re treating symptoms and stacking up gadgets while the actual foundation, the thing your spine rests on for a third of your life, is sagging, hot, and working against you.

Here’s the order of operations nobody in the gadget aisle wants you to hear. Fix the surface first. Support. Alignment. Temperature. Get those right and half your “sleep problems” disappear on their own, no app required.

Stop accessorizing a broken bed.

The AS3 is Amerisleep’s best selling mattress, engineered for cool, supported, deep sleep. My own daughter sleeps on one. If you’re looking for a more natural option: check out their Organica mattress!
