How do you know you’re beginning to heal from narcissistic abuse?

Sometimes, Colleen says, you can actually see it.

Someone starts reconnecting with friends and family. Their relationships with their children may begin to change. They rediscover what they enjoy, what matters to them, and who they are when they’re no longer spending so much energy walking on eggshells or managing someone else’s moods.

As Colleen describes it, they start to get their sparkle back.

Narcissistic abuse recovery can take time, especially when you’ve spent years feeling disconnected from yourself. But healing can also create space for something that may have been missing for a long time: joy.

🌿 Colleen Daugherty works with adults navigating narcissistic abuse recovery, trauma, anxiety, caregiving, and other difficult experiences. She also incorporates Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) into her trauma work.

Sometimes the hardest things to leave are the things that were good. 💛

A home that held your family for years.

A career that once felt exactly right.

A relationship or friendship that mattered deeply.

A season of parenthood you wish you could freeze in time.

We often think something has to go wrong before we’re allowed to move forward. But sometimes nothing failed.

A chapter can have been good and still be complete.

You can honour what it gave you, grieve that it’s ending, and still be ready for whatever comes next.

Send this to someone standing at the end of something good.

Sometimes a big behavior is a big emotion without anywhere else to go.

For children and teens, some emotions are still brand new. They may not yet have the words, coping skills, or experience to understand what’s happening inside them.

So those feelings come out another way.

Anger. Fighting. Crying. Screaming. Cussing. Hiding. Retreating.

Christina’s goal isn’t to be scared off by those emotions or judge a child for having them. It’s to create a safe place where they can express what’s happening, work through it, and gradually develop healthier ways to cope.

🎨 Christina OrtizKing Art Therapist provides counseling and art therapy for children, teens, and adults, including support for anxiety, neurodivergence, sensory needs, emotional regulation, identity, and big emotions that can be difficult to express.

If your child gives you absolutely nothing after school, you might be asking too soon.

For many kids, the school day requires hours of paying attention, following directions, navigating friendships, managing frustration, transitioning between activities, and meeting expectations.

Then they finally get somewhere they feel safe—and we immediately start asking questions. 😅

“Fine.”
“I don’t know.”
“Nothing.”

That response may not be disrespect or a sign that your child doesn’t want to talk to you. They may simply need some time to decompress before they have the capacity to tell you about their day.

Swipe through for a simple shift Christina recommends for that after-school transition. And save this one for your next 3:15 pickup. 💛

Sometimes the hardest part of narcissistic abuse is realizing that what you’re experiencing has a name.

It may not look the way people imagine abuse should look from the outside.

Friends and family may not see it. The person experiencing it may struggle to explain exactly what’s wrong. They may simply know that over time they’ve become more hypervigilant, less like themselves, or that the person they used to be seems to be disappearing.

That complexity is part of what drew Colleen to narcissistic abuse recovery.

In this Reel, she talks about how understanding the patterns can be an important part of beginning to unravel them, whether someone is still in the relationship or trying to heal after leaving.

🌿 Colleen Daugherty works with adults navigating narcissistic abuse recovery, trauma, anxiety, caregiving, and other difficult experiences. She also incorporates Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) into her trauma work.

Motherhood asks us to do something incredibly complicated: raise our children to leave us. 💛

You want them to become independent. To build a life they love. To walk confidently into whatever comes next.

And then the college drop-off happens, the bedroom gets quiet, and part of you wants to hold onto the version of life you just left behind.

You want them to go.
You also want to hold onto them.

Both can be true.

Send this to a parent who just did a college drop-off or is navigating a new season of motherhood.

If this transition is bringing up more than you expected, our Armonía team is here:

What if your child isn’t ready to talk yet?

For Christina, therapy doesn’t begin by pushing a child to explain what’s wrong. It begins by helping them feel safe enough to express what they’re experiencing.

And sometimes that starts with movement.

Scribbling. Tearing paper. Kneading clay. Creating with their hands.

In this Reel, Christina explains how she uses movement-based art activities to help children feel more grounded before asking them to put difficult feelings into words.

🎨 Christina OrtizKing Art Therapist provides counseling and art therapy for children, teens, and adults, including support for anxiety, neurodivergence, sensory needs, emotional regulation, identity, and experiences that can be difficult to express verbally.

Have you ever talked about something so many times that you understand exactly what happened…and yet you still feel the reaction in your body?

That’s part of why Colleen incorporates Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) into her trauma work.

Talk therapy can help identify the experiences, patterns, triggers, or fears that may still be affecting you. ART gives Colleen another tool to work with those experiences using eye movements and attention to the physical sensations that arise during a session.

In this Reel, she explains why she felt something was missing from her trauma work when talk therapy alone wasn’t reaching everything she wanted to address.

🌿 Colleen Daugherty works with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, narcissistic abuse recovery, caregiving, and other difficult experiences, and is trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

A chapter can have been good and still be complete.

That idea is at the heart of Donna Marie Marino, LMFT’s newest reflection for Armonía.

After sixteen years in the home where she raised her children, built traditions, navigated career changes, recovered from surgeries, launched a business, and watched her children grow into adults, Donna realized something had shifted:

It was time for a new chapter.

Life transitions can bring emotions that seem contradictory. We can be grateful for what was and grieve its ending. We can know a change is right and still feel sad about it. We can be excited about what’s next while missing what we’re leaving behind.

Whether you’re navigating an empty nest, a move, career change, evolving relationship, aging, or another transition, you don’t have to diminish the chapter you’re leaving in order to make room for the one that’s beginning.

In our newest article, Donna shares the very personal transition she’s navigating now and explores a question many of us eventually face:

Who am I in this chapter, and what do I want now?

Life transitions can bring grief, gratitude, excitement, and uncertainty all at once. Donna Marie Marino, LMFT reflects on motherhood, the empty nest, letting go, and making room for what comes next.
