There is something about this time of year that still carries the feeling of going “back to school,” even long after we’ve graduated. Fall carries an invitation to become a student again. To turn our attention toward something we want to understand more deeply.

At Perennial, we have three schools beginning this fall and early winter: They are different paths of study and practice, but underneath all three is the education of a lifetime. To Know yourSelf. The kind of Knowing that spiritual traditions have pointed us toward for thousands of years.

None of the schools we are offering this fall will hand you the answers. They will not give you a belief system and ask you to adopt it. They will not promise that after a certain number of weeks or months you will finally arrive at some enlightened destination.

What they can offer is something much more useful. A method. Each, in its own way, draws from time-tested practices and teachings that have been used by human beings to see more clearly. To become more intimate with our own experience. To discern what is true. And, over time, to live from that Knowing.

Perhaps that is what it means to be a student of your own life. To become increasingly capable of recognizing what is True.

So this fall, come back to school. Because there is so much truth and beauty worth discovering in You.

It’s time for one of our sweetest traditions, our Summer Solstice Strawberry Shortcake Party. Say that fast three times. :)

This year’s gathering will be on Sunday, June 28, from 7–9 pm-ish.

Our solstice ritual was inspired by the giant, spider-web-like art installation just outside our patio door. We’ll remember our place in the web of life and tie ribbons of prayer, intention, gratitude, and offering onto the web.

Then we’ll gather around the bonfire for strawberry shortcake and conversation, until you’re ready to drift off into the late-setting sun.

This gathering is at our Fitchburg location and will happen rain or shine. If the weather prevents us from having the bonfire, we’ll simply bring the gathering indoors and continue with the ritual, shortcake, and community from there.

Mother Nature claimed one of our hillside trees this week. For more than fifteen years, she has been the focal point of countless drishti gazes, quietly accompanying thousands of breaths, practices, and moments of stillness. Though her form is gone, her presence remains woven into this landscape and into our hearts. You’ll live on, beautiful one.

There’s something happening here.

Not new. A current that tried to come through once before and didn’t fully land.

You can hear it in the old songs if you listen to them as a kind of premonition

People catching something real as it’s breaking through. A way of seeing that makes our old lives harder to keep.

Not asking to be followed. Not asking to be believed. Just asking to be lived.

And the question isn’t which side are you on.

It’s are you willing to see clearly even when it costs you the version of yourself that felt safe.
