**Unpopular opinion: Another therapist’s pricing does not determine mine.**
Recently, another massage therapist called to inquire about my services. During the conversation, they shared that they had been practicing since 1995 and had never charged the rate I charge.
I respect longevity in this profession. Experience matters. But pricing is not based on seniority alone, and it is not a competition over who can charge the least.
My rates are built around the service I actually provide.
I am not simply offering a basic massage in a treatment room where clients come to me. I bring a specialized, mobile medical-massage experience directly to the client. That includes travel time, mileage, vehicle expenses, equipment, linens, setup, breakdown, laundry, supplies, insurance, licensing, continuing education, administrative work, and the physical demand of transporting everything needed for each appointment.
My clients are often seeking help with chronic pain, sciatica, limited mobility, muscular tension, stress, and nervous-system overload. They are paying for focused care, convenience, clinical experience, and the ability to receive treatment in their own space.
Not every therapist will charge what I charge. Not every therapist provides what I provide.
There will always be someone less expensive. There will also be someone more expensive. The goal is not to justify your business by comparing it to someone else’s—it is to understand your costs, recognize your skill, serve your clients well, and charge a rate that allows your business and your body to remain sustainable.
After all, massage therapists deserve pain relief, financial stability, and longevity too.
I respect therapists who have served their communities for decades. I also respectfully refuse to undervalue the work I have built.
My rate is not a judgment of anyone else’s rate.
It is simply the price required for me to provide this level of care.
