🦶 Tired Achy Feet ??

🙋‍♀️ Work that requires long days of walking and standing can cause unhappy feet 👎

🚶 It wasn’t until I switched shoes my feet felt better. After a while my shoes didn’t fully help. I started wearing compression socks which were a life saver !!

✅ Sharing the knowledge to happier feet:

▪️First line: Check your feet for any sores
▪️Second: yes, try shoe inserts or change shoes
▪️Strengthen feet and legs
▪️Compression socks of light/ appropriate compression
▪️Reduces swelling
▪️Reduces achy legs and feet
▪️Reduces varicose veins

👆Give these a try, but reach out for skilled in-person treatment and recommendations for your personalized care. Questions about compression socks? Let me know!

💡Honest Enlightenment

🙋‍♀️ I’ve always been realistic about my knowledge base and my capabilities. I leave room for improvement because my profession has constant evolving research. This past weekend proved I was correct in being a life-long sponge 🧽😆

🧐 Take aways from class taught by a highly respected research physical therapist:

▪️Same body but research reflects our lifestyle (intuitive but insightful discussions were made)
▪️Confirmation that the current insurance model is not ideal as clinics scale for productivity
▪️More research is still always needed
▪️PTs are movement experts but some tools are out of reach as they exist in university research labs
▪️Neuroplasticity not only good for our clients but good for PTs to reduce cookie cutter care plans
▪️More PT clinicians are seeking out of network models in entrepreneurship

👆Being a PT for 17 years I wholeheartedly agree. The business model at IINÁ Physical Therapy is to put you, the client as priority without insurance restrictions. Reduce the paperwork noise to get to your needs in a effective and timely manner.

🥶 Cold Plunging !!

🗣️ The initial shock! Then extreme cold transitions to a sense of burning which progresses to numbness 😰

🧸 Historical use of heat and cold therapy are scientifically proven to have health benefits when used correctly and safely.

‼️ Cryotherapy (cold therapy), more specifically cold plunging has health benefits for:
- Exercise recovery
- Helps the immune system
- Improves sleep
- Reduces inflammation
- General well being

📚 Prepare for cold therapy, speak with your health care provider, research and cold plunge safely. If you have cold sensitivities consult with your physician.

😆 Don’t be like me and flail and scream haha! Although I use to do cold whirl pool therapy for basketball, polar bear plunge in the Atlantic Ocean, and had cold showers, it’s been a while and my reactions were far from focused 🤦‍♀️

🫶 Deep Running Muscles

🗣️ Running requires many systems to work together. This allows the athlete and coach/trainer to use many types of exercises to target different parts of the body and to devise progressive training programs.

🧸 A disruption causes set backs to the program and delays progress. Examples are injuries, illness, and schedule conflicts - anything that prevents you from your normal routine.

‼️Recovery, rehab, and a structured plan to return to prior level of activity are crucial for achieving the prior level for progression or reducing the risk of re-injury. Here are some tips for core muscles:

▪️Core muscles help the pelvis because it connects the upper and lower body work as a unit to run.
▪️Core muscles help reduce back pain, which can interfere with longer running/walking/hiking miles.
▪️Core muscles help with posture which is needed to reduce trunk leaning during long distance running.
▪️Core muscle training can be modified, should be modified, to help progression into higher level training.
▪️Strengthening core muscles and deep hip flexors help reduce the risk of leg and knee pain/injury.

📈 Adding core strength exercises to your routine reduces injury and pain to the back, hips, and legs while improving form and endurance.

Have pain during running? Need strengthening? Want to reduce risk of pain and injury? Reach out to me for an individualized plan that works for you 😁👍

🫶 Health Education Finances

🗣️ I know what it’s like being a college student living off the $1 Menu for a few days 💸 haha, and joining the workforce with loan debt.

🧸 Programs under the U.S. set a baseline for businesses such as insurance rates (from Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) and now, educational loans (from the Deprtment of Education).

‼️ The US Department of Education recently changed their loan program for health care providers which impact finances for students seeking to be in Physical Therapy Programs, or who are in PT programs. Here are tips to offset debt, it’s not fun but definitely a requirement to help you in your own future:

▪️Free Money !! Shoot for scholarships and grants, these don’t have to be repaid.
▪️FASFA - still sign up for this, earlier in the application period if possible, by Feb. 14th for the Fall semester, allows you better chances for funding.
▪️Scholarship Repayments - find scholarships you repay by “working off” the scholarship, bonus is employment & a regular paycheck.
▪️Loan Repayment Programs - A Federal or Employer program will help repay loans. BUT, check the loan type, accepted loans are usually only federal loans.
▪️Private Loans - check the loan type, interest rate, payment start date, and if they are allowed to be part of loan repayment programs. Talk with your bank/financial advisor to help you get the best loan for you.
▪️You/Family - financial literacy will help you fine tune your options to help you achieve your professional goals 🙌

📈 Physical Therapy school tuition range $20k-$50k, Federal Loan cap for PT students ~$20k per year or $100k lifetime, average loan debt for PT professionals ~$80k-$150k.

Reach out and lets talk 😁👍
