Celebrating Michigan Memorial Park’s 100th anniversary on October 18 was an especially emotional day for our family.

“Today, I visited the memorials of so many of my family members, and I cried,” said Kelly Dwyer, fourth-generation owner and President of Michigan Memorial Park. “It was such a special day — one filled with reflection, gratitude, and love.”

Heidi Umin, fourth-generation owner and Vice President, also marked the occasion by honoring their mother, Barbara Heston, who proudly carried forward the legacy of Michigan Memorial Park as a third-generation owner.

For our family, this anniversary is more than a milestone. It is a moment to remember those who came before us, to honor the legacy they built, and to feel deeply grateful for the community we have been privileged to serve for 100 years.

100 YEARS: The legacy of our founder, William “Willie” Heston, lives on as Michigan Memorial Park celebrates its centennial anniversary today! 🎉

Willie Heston founded Michigan Memorial Park in 1926 with a vision rooted in dignity and community.

His plans for a park-style cemetery would expand with Michigan Memorial Funeral Home in 2001, giving families even more ways to receive care, plan with confidence, and honor.

Our Power Walk for Polio! Family Fun Halloween Walk! Sunday, October 25 1–3 pm at Michigan Memorial Park, New Boston. Cost is a monetary donation for polio eradication. Special thanks to Kelly Dwyer, Michigan Memorial for hosting and sponsoring this event. The flyer is attached. Please distribute it to your social media accounts, and send it out to all coworkers, friends and family. Let's make this a huge success.

The event will feature a 2 1/2 mile to 3-mile walk. We will have fun stations around the course with goodies and Halloween fun. We will also have the Purple Pinkie for Polio and sell our Lion's Game and Gear Raffle tickets. Costumes are optional. Riverview Rotary is also joining us as a sponsor of this event.

We are pleased to announce that we have received donations for this event. Logan's Roadhouse is donating fresh baked chocolate chip cookies (individually wrapped), Apple Charlie's is donating apples and Michigan Memorial and Charlie Zammit are donating water. If you know anyone or business who would be willing to donate to this event, please pass along our flyer. We are in need of candy to distribute and other items that would be appropriate for this event. In October of 1926, he imagined a beautiful, peaceful place where families could remember, reflect and return for generations to come.

This functional lighthouse stands at 35 feet tall, offering unique cremation burial options, including secure niches inside and around the building.

There’s also the new Lighthouse Pillars that offer a distinctive cremation burial option overlooking the Huron River.
